Texas driving requirement for motor homes
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
I have searched the Texas statutes concerning whether or not drivers of RV;s must have a commercial in Texas. Section 522 of VATS sets up requirements for commercial operator license. Section 555.004 (4) specifically excludes from CDL the driver of a recreational vehicle; in the same section RV is said to mean a motor home, along with trailers, etc. meant for temporary occupancy as a home. In short, Texas does not require the driver of an RV, regardless of weight or length, to have a CDL. From my experience, I have found that most DPS license offices do not know this.
