Tachometer on my '86 PT 38'

Kevin,

The tach sending unit is in the "V" of the engine, more towards the curb side
and at the front of the engine. Probably about 1 1/2" diameter, has 2 wires
coming out of it.

My tach started acting goofy, so I bought a used sending unit for $20(Holland
Motorhomes).

Lean over the batteries with flashlight in hand, look at passenger side of the
"V" at the front of the motor(still on top of the motor in the "V").

A pretty easy part to replace.

The air governor is just forward of the air compressor. The air compressor is
mounted on the front of the engine, above the transmission. The air governor is
just forward of the compressor and mounted on the inside of the frame rail.

I would pay somebody to change the governor. Claustrophobia got me before I
could lay a wrench on it. You have to be skinny enough to fit between the
transmission case and the frame rail and have arms at least 40 inches long and
not need to see what your doing with your qarms in the way. I paid $35 Labor to
have my air governor replaced after trying to get to it myself.
