Performance of a PT36 vs a PT38
Performance in a nutshell, the PT38 is only 10 percent heavier with almost 50
percent more horsepower. The PT36 gets a 5 speed vs. a 4 speed in the PT38, which helps a little. Level crusing it won't matter much, but passing or climbing hills it is no contest, the PT36 doesn' t have a chance. I feel my PT40 with the 8V92 has good performance, so although the PT36 is slower, you might still find it acceptable. Depends on whether you are in a hurry. Other than power, the real downside to the PT36 is storage. It may have the least storage of any Wanderlodge. Could be a real challange to store all your stuff if you are full-timing it. Not so important if you are just out for long weekends. I have been seriously considering a PT36 myself, my PT40 just won't fit in the space I have for the garage I want to build. So it's big coach no garage, or little coach in a garage. I really want that garage, but like you, with the PT36 I'm worried that I'll regret having that little 6V92 and miss the storage. Well that kind of leads me to if you're in southern CA, you're welcome to check out my PT40, I supose it's for sale. Scott Peatross '87PT40 Stevenson Ranch, CA buddyballs79 Hello and thanks in advance for the replies. We're looking at two coaches right now, one is an 89 PT 36 with the 6V 330 Detroit and the other is an 87 PT38 with the 8V 475hp Detroit. Both are the silver editions. The PT 36 has 135k and the PT 38 has 100k. Since they are both a considerable distance away we were wondering if anybody has had any experience with these coaches. How is the performance of the 36 with the 6V Detroit vs the 38 with the 8V? Any pros or cons for one or the other? It will be our first diesel motorhome and we love the look of the older Bluebirds. Our budget is $50k to $75k max. Thanks again for the help.
