FWIW, When I was going thru this on my Bird, I has a long conversation
with the factory engineer at Koni. He told me that a small amount of oil on the shock was perfectly acceptable since some was used to lubricate the seals. If it was "running" down the shock, then that was a problem. That was different from what I had been taught in years past - but things do change. I really loved those Koni shocks.
