Diesel Smell

Curt, Kerry, maybe you could enlighten me. First of all, would you
please tell me how long it takes diesel fuel to evaporate, I have a
spot in my drive! As we all know diesel has alot of oil in it.
While I fully understand how the tester works I am struggling with
this application. The tester while very sensitive, does not "think".
If a fuel leak were to travel down a wire loom, or along a frame rail
and then drip, would the sniffer take you to the source of the leak?
I would think that it sniffs you to the highest concentration of the
source. THE DRIP! NOT THE LEAK. The real solution, finding the leak,
might be 15ft away. I am sorry visual inspection is necessary! (Jim,
you gotta have batteries) If the leak drips onto the carpet in the
bay in this case, and you sniff within inches, it will sound off like
a banshee, corrrect? Again, the highest concentration of the
hydrocarbons (uh was that the term?). But the fitting 15' down the
fuel line is actually the cause "the leak" Curt, in your test you
were getting closer to the source fuel in the tank. I realize we have
gotten off topic, somewhat, but I am trying to help Jim keep from
chasing dead ends with the wrong tester...seems he has done enough of
that. His heating system is probably the culpret.

Maybe I am the one that was sleeping in science class, but I was sure
awake during "problem solving"
