Mine was the same way and the wire and coat hanger didn't help.
I ended up taking mine apart and cleaning a ton of solid gunk out of
it, mostly rusty bits (big surprise).
If you can't see any water at the bottom of the glass bowl, this
is not an urgent matter, don't panic, it isn't that serious. IF, on
the other hand, you DO see a bunch of water, then worry. ;o)
I took the bowl out and cleaned it and when I poured more fuel
into the top, it rinsed a whole bunch more rusty bits out of the
middle of the Racor. I ended up taking the whole thing apart.
I'd suggest you set aside the time to do just that when you do it.
