Het david,
I had a triumph TR250 also... You are right about it's characteristics, I think it was the lever shocks that were the culprit, but it was fun to drive, as is our BB's...

Just like anything else, it's the flaws that give 'em character

and make 'em interesting. My major complaint against Prevost

is that they're too perfect. I literally fall asleep behind the wheel -

boring. The BB reminds me of my British sports car, a Triumph

TR250, it hops and weaves, and puts a smile on your face.

Add to this all the wonderful gadgetry on a BB that keep us

amused: the electroluminescent dashboard, musical horns,

altimeter, and then all the systems that linger like long abandoned

DNA: 4 ways to heat the interior, redundant water pumps,

redundant air pumps.. And then implicit in all this is the owner

involvement, BB did a great job over the years of making

everything accessible, the owner is encouraged to debug and

maintain these things. I've got 40 tons of HWH jacks, enough

to easily lift the bus and pull a tire if need be. Things like this

don't exist on many other brands. Its 40 years of evolution and

organic growth. Can't be beat, flaws and all. I love 'em all

and hope someday to add a vintage model to my garage.

But alas, I'm preaching to the choir.

Agreed. I love my old Bird but I'll buy a newish LXi (I don't buy

depreciating assets "brand new") when I have the financial means.

There are differences between the new BBs and the old. Whether those

differences are "good" or "bad" is a matter of opinion, nothing more.

My opinion is they're a mixture of both, but the good outweigh the bad

and I fully intend to upgrade - but not for a long time. I'm still

barely a new owner here and have countless more years to enjoy this

old Bird.

Everything has design flaws. Old, new, you name it, I can point out

design flaws in mine, too. Of course, they can also be a matter of

opinion. One man's flaw is another's precision craftsmanship.
