I have used POR-15 for years. It is a great product. It flows out nicely. You
can paint over rust ( POR )or paint without the rust if you Ospho, sandblast or

Done it both wayz, spray requires masking, somewhat. Brush works OK too. Keep
in mind my experience has been on vintage dump trucks.
However, it makes them look impressive and I usually get top buck when selling
time comes.

I used it on my Thunderbird under the rocker area's and inside on the
floor pan. It works great and I even used it to patch a couple of
rust out holes using fiber glass screening material. This stuff is a
little expensive but works great!

But if you are going to do the whole underneath of your rig than I
would suggest you might spray on some type of rust inhibitor and then
spray with a good undercoating! I did this with my Dodge and it
worked out just fine.

I always remove the flaky rust before treating although I do not believe it is

I have used POR-15 for several projects on the bus. It is an exceptional
product that produces a hard glossy finish that is very chip resistant and easy
to clean. BUT... in order to get the results that are possible from it
requires a lot of preparatory work. All loose rust must be removed requiring
scrappin
g wire brushing etc. Then the metal preparatory solution, actually an acid
etcher, needs to be applied, allowed to work and then thoroughly rinsed off in
order to stop the acid action. The surface to be painted must be dry. Make
sure that you wear gloves as POR -15 is difficult to remove from your skin.
Your results will be great with if you follow the directions. POR 15 is not an
inexpensive product for large projects like an entire bus chassis.

I have been painting/repainting the chassis of my bus small sections and
have had good results from a product called Hammerite. The preparation process
is far less complicated. I have been removing all the loose rust, cleaning all
the grease and oil from the surface to be covered with solvents then brush
painting it on. The product has shown excellent adherence to the chassis and
has been holding up well. The acid etching process required for POR-15 is not
required. The best part is that Hammerite costs about one forth as much as
POR-15.

I am not suggesting that Hammerite is a better product than POR-15. In fact
it is not. But to be practical, if you are repainting an entire chassis as it
sits, that is, with the all the electrical, wiring, hoses and accessories
still attached, and are working under the bus. Then acid etching and complete
rust removal is not possible. I recommend the less expensive, easier route. I
think you will probably be satisfied with the results.
