93 PT-40 for sale in Nashville
Kurt,

Thanks for the update. I'm going to change mine over to the Amsoil
equivalent of the Transynd, since I can get that cheaper. 1MPG
increase is 20%!

Mike: Without getting into the whole Amsoil thing Allison does not
recognize Amsoil synthetic tranny fluid as an equivalent. As a matter
of fact if you had a new Allison under warranty it is not approved as a
suitable fluid for extended length drains. There are a few aftermarket
synthetics that are approved.

Pete,
I won't take it persoanlly..88WBWL white teal and fushia think it looks pretty good!

LOL ... I took a look and my first thought was "eeugh ... teal (green) and magenta colors." Guess it depends on the eye of the beholder.
My first impression from the photos was that it looked pretty good and the price seems not unreasonable for a starting point. However, if there's unreported damage and/or other problems,
then it might not be a good deal.

someone went to see it and had posted a rather negative review. I
searched for that post but can't find it right now.
If someone remembers that post or went to see the coach, please update
us again.

Hey, no problem. I just had to laugh. It's not really ugly (to me), but pale green just doesn't do much for me. Probably has something to do with the local transit district that was created out of the bones of the Key System bus lines. The Key system busses were mostly a dark yellow with white roof and dark green trim.
The newly formed transit district (about 1960) selected designer colors of teal and salmon (light green and dark pink) as the primary colors for their fleet. I honestly thought they were one of the ugliest bus color designs I've ever seen. (But the colors were "in" that year.) Indeed, that color scheme hung around for nearly 30 years...
I'm sure, had we found a teal and fushia bus during my search that was otherwise appropriate, we'd probably have taken it. -- The only hard and fast design choice was "no pink." (And there was at least one coach that otherwise met my search criteria that was rejected on that basis, as I recall, the exterior was quite similar to the green one we're discussing, but it had a ton of pink in the interior.)
Oddly, one of the WBWLs whose appearance I find most appealing has been on sale on Vintage Birds (a '93 located in Palm Springs, third listing from the bottom) that's essentially white with a blue-green (dark teal) bottom 18" with an almost purple trim color stripe and swoosh design. I would have seriously considered that coach had it not been overpriced by $40,000 or so at the time.
Indeed, I wasn't particularly thrilled with the brown colors on my coach when seen in the photos. But, in person, it's much more attractive.
I guess, what I'm trying to say is, colors are very subjective. And, since I work as a graphic designer, I'm quite used to having clients select colors that are far from my favorites -- and I don't let it bother me.

We looked at this coach 2 or 3 years ago. The front skylight was
unrepairable and the front headliner was toast. The owner at that
time refused to budge much off his asking price. The price was around
121 or so at that time. We drove up from Atlanta to see it. It was
also quite dingy and needed much TLC.

Hi Bruce -

Re the Allison approved list, I fully understand your point.
In spite of that I'll take my chances. AS I understand it, Amsoil did
not pay the $100k+ certification fee. They do however have a huge
insurance policy warranty for any lubrication based failures. I grew
up in the oil distributing business from a long time ago. Been
running Amsoil since 1979. Run it in all my street vehicles, Harleys,
John Deere tractors, lawn equipment, Birds and my race cars since
then. Have one national drag record to my count, so I'll take my
chances. (My machinist did ask me not to ever bring it into his shop
again because he thought he would never get it cleaned up off his
stainless steel inspection table!)

No offense intended, nor taken. You're one of the guys that I follow
your posts closely. Having been on Cortez's trail inland from the
sea, I truly admire your sense of adventure living in Mexico and enjoy
your posts documenting that.

No problem Mike. I was not sure about your knowledge of that fact. Heck
if I could get one more MPG I would put Olive Oil in the Tranny. I
would even put magnets on my wrists and on the fuel line!!! I never was
lucky to have held a national record. But our old F gasser back in the
late 60's and even 1970 was very competitive. Ran a 12.0 on an 11.78
record. In those days that was close. Just a spectator today.

Mike,

Do you like Amsoil also? I use the 15w40 heavy duty Marine in the
generator as well as the 8v92 and it is doing a great job. I would
like to also switch the transmission fluid but haven't got it done
yet. I also use Amsoil in the boys two BMW's, the wife's van, my 05
Duramax pickup and in the tractor and mowers as well.
