"Fan" belt for DD Series 60
After calling around, I discovered that the belt was not easy to get. Found it online at Ryder Fleet Products, only $33.26 plus shipping ($7.95). Local prices were over $50.Â

Since I've only owned the coach for 2 years, I can't say if one of the several previous owners hasn't replaced it in the past... It could be 13 years old... or it could be 3 years old. I'll never know.

Pete Napa part number for the Alt. Belt is 25-120720. I always carry one in my tool box. We made it to Sacramento yesterday our 2350 mile trip we uneventful. The roads between Reno and Sacramento is like a wash board road similar to the ones we use in the Auto industry to test vehicle suspension (sine wave). Close to 135,000 miles on my coach ... so that belt's been working for some distance as well as time. I have to admit, that the damage I just noticed (and it had to be running to see it easily) could have been there for a long time. The inside rib (closest to the engine) is missing on a portion of the belt. Since I normally inspect the belts with the engine off, it was not obvious. I only noticed the damage because the engine was running as I was adding R134a to the AC. For all I know, it might last another several years -- but now that I know it's damaged, it's time for a new one.

I-80 over the Sierras get a huge amount of traffic plus the beating of chains and studded tires in winter. Highway budgets have been "stolen" to fund other things the past several years as CA government has been short of funds (14 billion short this year). When traffic's light, I run in the left lane as the pavement is less bumpy. It's pretty bad. There's a lot of bad stretches on CA freeways.
I-5 smoke. Weather reports indicate an "onshore" flow of air, that's pushing the smoke into the Central Valley. Should make the I-5 not very pleasant ... but the smoke should start clearing below Fresno as most of the fires are in the north. However, you probably won't be smoke free until after you pass the Tehachapis (south of Bakersfield) as the winds can push the smoke down the length of the valley. The mountains surrounding the Central Valley cause it to have smoke (and smog) "pile up" with no place to go. Much of the area in the Valley just to the east of the SF Bay Area (Lodi, Stockton, Modesto.) has air quality ratings of "unhealthy" due to the smoke. Public (outdoor) events have been being cancelled throughout the area due to concerns about the smoke. CA currently has more than 1000 fires burning -- and there's a threat of "dry" thunderstorms today that may set many more fires. If you want to avoid the smoke (as much as possible) you might take 101 south. That route will be smokey until south of Salinas, then the air should clear up once you're below the fires around Big Sur (due to that "on shore air flow"). But a shift in the wind can change the situation fairly quickly. Note that 101 will take considerably longer than I-5 -- but the scenery is a lot better.
