Just a reminder, that RATS 2007 will no longer be at Fair Harbor RV
Park in Perry, GA, where the water problem occurred this year, but
instead will be at Twin Oaks RV Park, just two exits south on I-75
and by the appearance of that park, everything should be a lot better
there and the water too.

At last count there were already 34 people signed up for RATS 2007
reservations. The dates are November 1-4, 2007.

I personally like some of the others that have posted here, use an
inline whole house type filter purchased at Lowes, in my fill hose
and I use the onboard system tanks and pump inside the 'Bird and only
use the shore water pressure source to fill the tanks, I find that
this will keep the tanks filled with fresh water (hopefully) and then
I turn it off, or at least I turn it off when I remember what I'm
doing, but sometimes I create a small LAKE, under and around
my 'Bird, like I did at this years RATS, when I got sidetracked by
other chores, thanks Curt for turning it off for me. I think that I
was just jealous of those that had the real lake front property at
Fair Harbor and wanted some of my own :o)

I live in the country and also have unfiltered well water but I have mine
check by the county health dept. regularly. I know I have a safe water source at
home.
When camping I do not know what Joe Blow Campground operator is supplying me.
Remember the water problem at the Rats Rally, was the lines flushed before we
were hooked back up. I unhooked my hose and when it came back on line I turned
on the spigot and muddy wated came out. At the RIV how long had the water been
sitting in the lines when everyone hooked up. In a perfect world everyone would
do the right thing. But the attitude in most cases is don't worry they will be
gone in a day or two.

Just a little story about this water business then I'll be quiet.
I was raised on untreated, unfiltered well water. Over Thanksgiving I returned
to my childhood home to visit with my mom. I drank, bathed in and cooked with
the very same untreated, unfiltered well water that I grew up drinking and my
mom has used for about 68 years. She in 91 now God bless her. Makes it hard to
get excited about filters these days.

I do not spend my idle time worrying about coach water quality because it
should be the same quality as the source unless there is something in that
Camping World garden hose that attaches the coach to the source. The hose is the
only variable I a can identify.
Sometimes marketing techniques can cause people to buy products that are not
needed. If you are attached to a source other than treated water, that's another
story.

That just my theory. Never had any problems in approx 3 years. Hope all is

systems for water. If your lines are clean in the bus I'd bet the water in the
bus is the same quality as in your home. Actually I drink the water that is
pumped through my bus. Haven't had any problems.

purifier in my coach. It filters and purifies the potable water
supply to eliminate tastes odors, and coloration producted by
chlorine,rust, insecticides, detergents,sediment and other foreign
objects. Satisfactory elimination of water borne disease carrying
bacteria is accomplished by a hygenic filter bed which contains
silver ions absorbed on sponge silver metal which is deposited in a
finely divided form on granular activated carbon of high surface
area. An added benefit is that even if the coach is not used for some
time, bacteria will not grow in the water distribution system. The
system requires no maintenance. The filter media will process 75,000
gallons of water before needing replacement. End of information

With this system in our coaches I cant believe we need something else
even after 20 years. WE can fill the coach 750 times before it needs
replacing.

I am going to see if I can find more information on it.

Gardner,

I use a TastePURE CX90 water filter. It is a combination
ceramic/charcoal filter. I also have an inline filter under the sink.

The CX90 has a blue see through housing, so you can monitor it.
Maintenance involves scrubbing the ceramic filter with an included
scrubbing pad, as needed.

A few months ago I was hooked up to a well water source. The ceramic
filter prevented dirt and other contaminants from entering my system.
I had to clean the ceramic filter about once a week to maintain water
flow.

Currently, we are hooked up to another well water system.

Last week, I checked the filter and noticed it had turned a very dark
color, much darker than normal. Turns out algae had started to grow
on the ceramic filter.

I pulled the filter and checked the outflow side of the inner charcoal
filter and connector to the coach. Clean as can be. The outer
ceramic filter surface was covered with algae. Most likely because
the filter is exposed to sunlight most of the day.

I installed a new replacement filter and covered the housing to
prevent sunlight hitting it.

During my research about water filters, I saw discussions about using
see-through versus opaque filter housings, due to the algae issue.
The see through housings were more likely to promote growth of algae.
I'm going to leave my filter covered to see what happens.

In my opinion, a water filter is absolutely necessary because as
RVers, we have no idea how safe a particular water supply is. We
don't know if the previous RVer used an anti-siphon valve when he back
flushed his holding tanks, among other not so safe possibilities.

Howard: I haven't asked BB what they install now. I didn't get to
check mine this W/E either, ended up chasing a gremlin in the TV
system, re-polishing rear wheels after new tire installation and
other stuff. Will try to see what filter system I have next week.
I gotta get in gear and get ready for our Texas trip. Seems like I
run in low gear these days or the clock is moving faster. lol
