Rally in our "own Valley
Well that sounds pretty nice George. I wasn't intending to knock Indio
particularly, but I suspect it is a little more costly than your average KOA,
and those aren't cheap.
Some shop at Neiman-Marcus, others at K-Mart.

Well, Mike, At the WMHA Rally in Indio this past January, we paid $80
plus another $25 if we wanted electricity (30 amp). This included
three nights of name entertainment but no meals. (except for the
volunteer dinner) Even had John Davidson (You young fellows won't
remember him) We did have approximately 1700 coaches and LOTS of
volunteers. The wife & I drove a tram for two hours every morning and
had a ball. Met a lot of folks that way. They had more seminars than
you had time to attend...

Ernie asking Vendors to come to your rally might give the wrong signals to
BB. We do get support from them now, The birds Nest, parts and technical
help. I would not want that to go away. BB might very well see this protest
rally across the street as a challenge to them. Just something to think about.

Hi Mike,

No problem.. I forgot to mention that was for a four day rally also.
That would be three nights. I have never seen a KOA (Keep On Adding)
that got even close. Got to give a lot of credit to the planners of
that Indio affair... They go to a lot of effort to keep the costs down
and the quality up.

Ernie,

We can't commit to anything yet. Still trying to get the old
homestead sold. Tried to set up an Estate sale and was amazed by the
number of Auctioneers that have gone out of business in CA. Until
that happens, our plans are up in the air. We do hope to get back east
to visit relative in the neighborhood but nothing definite yet. I
figure, just the operating costs to run east and back again is around
$3500. I have to have a lot more than a three day rally to justify
that kind of cost.... However, if we can possibly be in the area, the
old grouch will be there.

Tom, that is a very good point about the vendors. In retrospect, they
probably couldn't make too much money with 100 coaches. But, we have some folks
that
could give a few tech seminars. Ernie-83PT40 in Texas

George, I sent a couple of notes to Ray Horne and Glenn Rodgers, both former
BB employees asking their input. I sent that note out late Fri and have not
heard from them. Perhaps when they get back to work next week. Good idea of
yours, by the way. Want to email him? Ernie

Ernie,

A thought came to mind as I was thinking about Carole's email, which
seems to be indicative of the "design team" at Wanderlodge. There
have been a lot of excellent people at Wanderlodge who have been laid
off or otherwise left the company and they still live in the local
area. One that comes to mind is Chuck Hallem who I found to be most
helpful. Perhaps some of them would like to come and put on a question
and answer period for a good dinner or something.

One point that I would like to pass on re: Carole's post: When we got
our coach, we found that we could not open the drawer on the
Washer/dryer that is for the soap, rinse, etc. because the cabinet
doors were in the way. I found two other coaches built the same way in
'95 & '96. I discussed that with Chuck and he was shocked. He said
that he had discovered that before the coaches went out and was
promised by the design "engineer" that the coaches would not leave in
that condition. They did. What is most disgusting is that last year
when we were looking at a new 450, we found the same condition. Yet
they laid off Chuck and kept the "design engineer". While we like the
basic strength of construction that BB puts into their vehicles, once
in the Wanderlodge plant for outfitting, they are not much better than
Fleetwood in their design. It is ridiculous to have to pay $750,000
for a new coach and have to have it redesigned and modified to make it
usable.

On the serious side, it would be nice to see more coaches on this side than on
the blue bird side. Now on a positive note for Blue Bird, is there a way to
attrack even other coaches to be with RIoV that would be interested in the Blue
Bird coaches.
