And you all thought the thread about CDL's would never quit. Start insulting someone's newer high-dollar coaches..and we'll need more band-width.
In defense of Dave and Me with newish LXi's, I saw an '06 BB at the Dallas RV show last February on the very day we went out to Mr. Olivers and laid eyes on our current coach the first time. Blue Bird has fallen on hard times before and been forced to make some compromises. While the '06 Bird had four slides and stunning decor, it had no natural woodwork- just premium laminate on plywood. All seatswere ultraleather. '99-'02 coaches were regularly over $700K. This "new" one was $541K. Loss leader? Not by that much. I asked the rep what the best years were. He said the 80's and early 90's were outstanding but the first slide-coaches and ALL M380s had serious design flaws and quality (esp electric) issues. He said the last (I swear this is true..and he said this before I even saw mine)trulyelegant coachesfrom thepre LBO designers and decision makers whoworked with Henry Luce, were '99 through '02. But we've certainly found some design flaws in our coach. I wish Complete Coachworks nothing but the best re-establishing the superior reputation of Wanderlodge. Quick update on two maintenance items. I had entry-step trouble..stuttering in and out when the door was opened. Turns out one of three switches was weak in the spring and the leather interior hinge-cover was contacting that plunger switch when the door went past 90 degrees..causing that one switch to pull it in again. Seems to be working now. When in doubt, clean, lube and stretch out the spring. And the microphor toilet problems that plagued us for a year can be traced (I hope) to a failing pressure relief valve under the powder room lavatory. Ryan had a new one that was actually a newer design less prone to failure than the rubber pinhole design Blue Bird put in. Valves and Switches. BradBarton00LXiDFW bbartonwx@...

Right on target Roger. I have pulled into Flying Js in my Blue Bird & had the clerks inside come out to look at & admire it. How many "motor homes" do they see in a day? How many times do they come outside to really appreciate what a SOB is all about? Terry Neal |

Tim,
I paid $4.29/gal/diesel Tuesday in AZ; 46 cents/gal less than here in Anaheim Hills, CA. My bus diesel tank is full. I buy AZ diesel fuel and feed the beast here in Anaheim. I'm hoping to head up to MT for some of that brisket with Shane and Ernie...waiting on other family members to make a commitment to taking the time off...time will tell. I love my old Bird but I'll buy a newish LXi (I don't buy depreciating assets "brand new") when I have the financial means. There are differences between the new BBs and the old. Whether those differences are "good" or "bad" is a matter of opinion, nothing more. My opinion is they're a mixture of both, but the good outweigh the bad and I fully intend to upgrade - but not for a long time. I'm still barely a new owner here and have countless more years to enjoy this old Bird. > But we've certainly found some design flaws in our coach. Everything has design flaws. Old, new, you name it, I can point out design flaws in mine, too. Of course, they can also be a matter of opinion. One man's flaw is another's precision craftsmanship. -Ryan '86 PT-40 8V92 |

Just like anything else, it's the flaws that give 'em character and make 'em interesting. My major complaint against Prevost is that they're too perfect. I literally fall asleep behind the wheel - boring. The BB reminds me of my British sports car, a Triumph TR250, it hops and weaves, and puts a smile on your face. Add to this all the wonderful gadgetry on a BB that keep us amused: the electroluminescent dashboard, musical horns, altimeter, and then all the systems that linger like long abandoned DNA: 4 ways to heat the interior, redundant water pumps, redundant air pumps.. And then implicit in all this is the owner involvement, BB did a great job over the years of making everything accessible, the owner is encouraged to debug and maintain these things. I've got 40 tons of HWH jacks, enough to easily lift the bus and pull a tire if need be. Things like this don't exist on many other brands. Its 40 years of evolution and organic growth. Can't be beat, flaws and all. I love 'em all and hope someday to add a vintage model to my garage. But alas, I'm preaching to the choir. David '02 LXi, NC Ryan Wright wrote:
