1985 FC 35 Generator start up

I have my FC now a year, just about ready to hit the road.Very happy
with my BB. Need help with my generator. Twice now the generator as
started up on it's own.Once last February ( during a very rainy day )
and again now in March ( again a rainy day )When I shut down the
generator the starter keeps running.Had to diconnect all power to
starter.Could the starter solenoid be the problem or is it some other
electrical problem.Thanks to all for you help.

Some years ago the generator on my SOB would start when I got out the
driver's door. As I did so I added weight to left side of the
driver's seat, pressing down on some sheet metal that pinched through
the generator start wire, connecting it to ground.

I suspect that the start button works by connecting to ground and that
somewhere this wire is being shorted to ground by water. That does
not help find where this is occurring but may be of help in
understanding what is happening.

Hi Mario,

Sounds like the Gremlins! It would be pretty easy to put a switch
in the starter circuit to prevent this from happening- but if you
really want to go down the rabbit hole, try checking both switches. My
starting switch in the galley has a tendency to stick in the off or on
position. It seems that the hole that the switch protrudes from is not
big enough. I lubed it up with some silicone spray, but as a rule I
don't use that one. As to the bendix spring- It may be broken and
allowing the arm to move freely. There is a large spring that is about
1" wide and 2" tall compressed in there. Usually they do not break,
but even when they do, enough spring is left to prevent the contacts
from engaging. My money is on a broken switch.
