Back up Camera AGAIN!
I have been looking at some used Blue Birds. 3 of them had problems
with the BU system. One 1987 FC was very fuzzy and one 87 FC had a faulty camera. Neither had the monitor in a good place: L.H.on the side by the ceiling. I was thinking of buying a whole new system. I see them at rvcams.com for reasonable prices. My question is: Where do the wires from the camera run to the front? In the ceiling? Would it be hard to fish new wires to the front? Does the headliner drop easily? Anyone used the existing wires with a new system? I was thinking of mounting the monitor on the dash within easy view. THanks Bruce wannabee |

On my 82 FC, the camera wires run in the left side main wire bundle at
the back of the overhead storage compartments. At the back of each compartment, there are small wooden panels with screws for easy removal. Behind those are the main wire looms that contain all the front-to-back wiring. Running new wires would not be tough, getting behind the fridge would be the hardest part. I assume an 87 FC is the same or smiliar. I used the existing wires for our new camera and LCD. I've also run
wires front/back for other applications. Use a non-conductive material for a fish tape when working amongst all those wires. Curt Sprenger 1987 PT38, Anaheim Hills, Calif. The wire duct is in the back of the overhead cabinets.
I'd look at repairing rather than replacing. I've had coaches with LCD and CRT, overhead and dash-top. I prefer overhead, CRT. The LCD usually doesn't have enough contrast & brightness for full-sun with all of those windows, overhead mounting helps though, and mine didn't dim enough to use at night. CRT worked well, good contrast and brightness. Buy a coach and try it before engineering too much change IMO. The fuzzy one might be an original plastic lense on the back of the '87, common problem, dremmel out the plastic and install glass. Cameras are cheap if it is the problem, and the monitor can also be repaired. Wiring can be run down the A or B pillar, although it's pretty crowded in there already, it can be done. - Jeff Miller in Holland, MI --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "birdshill123" > > I have been looking at some used Blue Birds. 3 of them had problems > with the BU system. Back up Camera AGAIN!
I just bought a brand new LCD 7" COLOR monitor, with camera with night
vision to replace the old one. Using the existing cable already there. Whole package cost me $275.00 on e-bay. Beautiful picture!!! Also has the reverse trigger to turn on cam/monitor when bus is put into reverse-or choose to have on all the time! Came with all the cables, and power hookups. Really neat system. Also LCD monitor serves as an awesome replacement for the color tube monster TV overhead. It has 2 additional inputs for DVD,VCR, ect. I will post pics when I get it installed on my 81 bluebird restoration pictures under the photos section. Bruce I did it with a RVCAMS system and posted it twice to both of the
Wanderlodge sites. It is easy to do. If you can't find the past posts email me at Rob, Sue & Merlin 94 WLWB Quoting birdshill123 > > > > I have been looking at some used Blue Birds. 3 of them had problems > > with the BU system. Unless you either have swept cable or RG6 installed in your coach you
will degrade the picture on the monitor. RG59 if that is what you have installed is alright for analog signals (the system originally installed) but you will not get a sharp picture on the monitor if you use it. Buying an adapter to connect two different cables is not the answer. Fish the new cable and do it correctly. Woody check out http://www.rvcams.com and if you do a search for a post I made about
May of last year you'll get the Radio Shack part number for the connection that joins S cable and the existing Coax. Saves you having to fish new wire.
