Best camping near Washington DC and Montreal
Will be heading east with the Bird in a few weeks. What's the best
camping near Washington DC and Montreal? Found a website for Pohick
Bay Regional Park Campground in Lorton VA, and Camping Alouette near
Montreal. Any opinion on these places or others?
Anyone camped at Ashteague National Seashore?

Kerry my wife and I really enjoyed Cherry Hill RV park on the outskirts of
DC (north of DC where I-95 meets the Beltway). It is not the cheapest but it
is so convient and when you factor in the travel time and cost of fuel of
the the cheaper (and further out) RV parks, Cherry Hill was a deal. A great
park that even has a dog walking service. A regular bus run comes into the
park and takes you to the subway. Our trip into town each day was just
around one hour each way. Their info can be found at

1: Highly recommend MARYLAND Assateague State Park or if space not
available, the National park just down the road. You park on pads
right near the dunes, maybe 100 yds from ocean. Wild horses & deer
roam the areas.
2: If parking SOUTH of DC, Pohick Bay Regional Park is nice, further
south is Prince William Forest Park, part of the national park
system. To tour DC, get to a METRO subway train station and ride
metro into town and tour the mall area using the Smithsonian
station, the entire Mall area is one of the best urban walking
tourist areas in the world. The mall area is safe. Parking at
METRO is tough, no RVs...you can park RV easily at Springfield Mall,
just east off RT95 at Rt 644 and walk 1/4 mi to the Springfield
METRO Station south of the mall. Web sites for all these locations
are excellent.

I checked out the Cherry site and Pohick Bay. Since we'll have our
canoes along, Pohick Bay seems more appealing since we can do some
paddling. Thanks for the hints on the mall parking, we should have a
toad along.
What's the difference between the State Park and National Seashore.
On the web it looked like the National Seashore had camping pads very
close to the ocean.

Kerry:

I have not been to the Camping Alouette park, but I have been to the KOA south
of Montreal many times. The sites are mostly large pull-throughs, and there is a
shuttle service from the park to downtown Montreal each morning with a return
trip in the late afternoon.

Best wishes.

Both are very nice...I have found it easier to make reservations at
the MD park. Both are no hookups as I recall and may have generator
limitations. Great bicycle area (flat).
