SUCCESS!
Finally got the levelers working after swapping out the pump. What a
saga. A word of advice to those who may work on their leveling system: the hoses marked with red tape are return lines. In my mind, it seemed logical that red would mean pressure, but that is not the case. I guess 'red' and 'return' both start with 'r'. My pressure lines had no markings. If you are a sailor returning to port at night, the rule is" Red Right
Return". SUCCESS!
With the help of Stephen Birtles and the folks at Cole-Hersee, I have
brought my levelers back from the dead. A dead solenoid was the problem, as suspected, and the rest of the system works fine except for a yet-undiagnosed oil leak coming from one jack. These HWH systems are really resiliant, my understanding from the previous owner was that the jacks had not been used in many years. It is really, really fun to find success in projects like this, especially for a guy like me who is not trained as a mechanic and has to lern as I go.
