Shift Problem

Need thoughts and ideas on why trans won't go into reverse.
Backed out driveway, pulled forward, tried to go into reverse to back
into driveway and nothing. No light on dash, nothing. Was able to put
into drive again and circle around and pull into driveway. Have
neutral and forward gears.
Checked cannon plugs in dash and near trans.
