Anyone have any idea when a 1983 fc-35 should bump into the next gear on level
ground. Since it appears my transmission conrtol was diconnected I will try to
figure out when to make it shift from 1 to 2, 2 to3 and 3 to 4

Thanks for all the information. I wish mine had Air cruise and throttle, but I
have to work with what I have

My 78FC33 upshifts around 22-2300 with the pedal to the metal. It
downshifts around 17-1800 while climbing under full throttle except
for 4th to 3rd, which happens around 12 to 1300. I always manually
downshift from 4th to 3rd during a climb because I think it is
better to keep the rpm's near 2000 and I don't want to lug the
engine. My FC had the gears changed from 5:something to 4:88 so my
shift points may not be standard.

While playing with the cable on our FC I discovered that it affected all
except the 1-2 shift which is always at 2650rpm. I ended up setting it up
like we used to set up the automobile transmissions before the computer
days, about 1/8" slack at full throttle. With that setting it will up shift
or lockup at 2650rpm and down shift at 2000. Under real light throttle,
other than 1-2, it will up shift about 2200rpm and downshift about 1700rpm.
If it is below 2000rpm and you apply more throttle it downshifts
immediately. Working fresh transmission into the transmission really seemed
to help performance also.

Doesn't seem like it should, but it did on Pokey. When it was too long, it
virtually skipped straight into 3&4 lockup, really lugged him down. Doug n'

locks in 3rd and stays on for the 3/4 shift. Engine and trans need the cable
travel fully extended or compressed at WOT.

My 78FC33 upshifts around 22-2300 with the pedal to the metal. It
downshifts around 17-1800 while climbing under full throttle except
for 4th to 3rd, which happens around 12 to 1300. I always manually
downshift from 4th to 3rd during a climb because I think it is
better to keep the rpm's near 2000 and I don't want to lug the
engine. My FC had the gears changed from 5:something to 4:88 so my
shift points may not be standard.

your numbers are appropriate for a NA, turbos operate at less RPM.

Doug n'

The 3208 manual says the engine starts lugging at 1900rpms and not to run it in
this
condition for more than a short period of time. I can't recall the upshift
points on mine
but I think it is around 2400-2500.
