Air Step
We returned home after over three months on the road.
The Bird performed nearly perfectly, thanks to all who helped us in our first year of ownership. We did not read the forum during that time, Surprized to see that it self destructed. But we will never give up on the Bird or asking questions. We have a Clippard dealer near our home that has seals for the air step cylinder. But we are confused about the air control switch. Who is the manufacturer?? Is there a gasket and seal kit available?? We think a solinoid is hanging up intermittently. Thanks Again, Bill 88 FC Michigan |

original was made by ARO now owned by parker-hannifin all parts still
available .Best bet is to remove solenoid and take it to the "Parker Hannifin Store " and let them match it up Stephen 77fc35 http://www.capeinnovation.com --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "pattypape" wrote: > > > > We returned home after over three months on the road. > The Bird performed nearly perfectly, thanks to all who helped us > in our first year of ownership. > We did not read the forum during that time, > Surprized to see that it self destructed. > But we will never give up on the Bird or asking questions. > > We have a Clippard dealer near our home that has seals for the air > step cylinder. > > But we are confused about the air control switch. > Who is the manufacturer?? Air Step
Bill,
I had trouble with mine and had a local industrial repair company overhaul the air cylinder. Took about an hour and they charged me 40 bucks. When that didn't fix it, I got a replacement air valve from Randy DuPree at DuPree products in Florida. The air valve didn't look like the original, but was easy to install and now the steps work perfectly. I did get the wires hooked up backwards, but that was easy to tell I'd made a mistake when I opened the door and the steps retracted. LOL After switching the wires around, it worked fine. Air Step
Bill,
I will be curious to see your solution, as I have an 88 with a similar intermitant step problem . One thing Ralph suggested was to remove the airlines by the step and shoot them full of a silicon lubricant. I did this once, and it did seem to help, but I did it in sub zero weather, and need to take another shot at it as i was so cold...i didnt do a great job. Another recomendation was to clip the wires that run to a weight sensor directly beneath the door and above the step. I guess this was an unnecessary saftey feature that can go bad and effect step opperations. Its intent was to keep the step from opening or closing when weight is on it.??? anyway ..please keep me informed as too your solution, as I wouldnt doubt our same vintage coaches have the same problem.....I will let you know if I get mine working as well. ps I have dealt with a few other issues on my 88 that ii would be happy to discuss.. 1.overheating generator 2.oil leeks 3.throttle spring slippage 4. throtte position sensor....(controling transmisions ability to shift out of park) 5..and many more. thanks mark walk 88fc so caL --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "mrdonut12" <mrdonut12@y...> wrote: > > Bill, > I had trouble with mine and had a local industrial repair company > overhaul the air cylinder. Air Step
The cylinder is ok- it sounds more like the valve. I can put my finger on the
exhaust part and feel air coming out. Ernie- if an oring will fix it- thats my kinda fix [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Air Step
Ernie:
The control valve could be passing air through the exhaust muffler, meaning the spool is not seating fully or shifting fully. Of course an o-ring on the spool or chamber could be bad too. Lots of stuff down there that can leak. Another leaking point is the small cylinder that locks the step in the out position. The cylinder rod gets bent and causes wear on the gland nut and seals. Air Step
Clear DayJeff Miller, do you or anyone else know if the info on air step at the
Vintage Bird "Fixes" Site about I.R. "Alpha Valve" being interchangeable with Clippar Valve on "older" Birds (including my 88FC) is correct? At the time price was listed as $88.00 plus fittings. Air leak is on end facing curb. Thanks for any insight you may be able to offer, John Barry 88FC [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
