Two questions: CCC on a 89, 36SP and Painting cabinets
Hello - I tried searching to see if my questions were previously
answered - and have not seen any replys that hit the mark exactly so I figure I will ask. 1. Although each coach will certainly be different, is there concern for CCC on a 1989 36SP? Unit I am looking at is pretty loaded with extras... 2. Has anyone had experience painting the interior cabinets? I know some folks may adore, but we hate some of the colored cabinets that were used...is there a relatively easy and cheap way to alter the color? Thanks in advance, Matt |

Matt, CCC is that cargo carry capacity? As far as painting laminates. I
dont think I have ever seen a laminate painted very well. If you dont like pink, just call it Mauve. Vintage Bird site has a buyers check list you may want to look at. There is a Forum member TomS in Southeast that has a nice sp for sale and I am sure you will get an ear full from downunder about one in LV. TomS may best give you advice on cargo capacity I think he has young kids also. http://vintagebirds.com/ Good luck on your search GregoryO'Connor 94ptRomolandCa --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "eujamfh" <mfhopson@...> wrote: > > Hello - I tried searching to see if my questions were previously > answered - and have not seen any replys that hit the mark exactly so I > figure I will ask. > > 1. Two questions: CCC on a 89, 36SP and Painting cabinets
Matt,
I can't tell you what the CCC on a an SP is, but I can tell you that foot for foot it has more storage capacity than my PT. I assume I could handle more weight with the extra axle, but don't know where I'd put it. I too thought the interiors of a bird were lacking something. When we bought ours, I envisioned all the changes to be made. The first day we bought it we met Ralph Fullenwider and he said to me, "don't change anything on this coach for six months". I took his advice. Now it's going on three years, and we haven't changed anything and I'm glad to have listened to Ralph. Everything seems to grow on you with a little time, and you come to realize how nice these busses are in their original state. Lastly, I think I recall reading here on the forum you can not or should not paint laminate cabinets. Don't be too happy about the triple C on SPs. Weigh carefully. PTs have a tag
for a reason. Two questions: CCC on a 89, 36SP and Painting cabinets
Regardless of the coach (be it a BB, Newell, CC, Foretravel or high
end Monaco) whatever we end up with will be weighed before I sign the check over. Same for an oil analysis. I really, really have a spot in my heart for the older BB and Newells...but there is a "practicle" side that talks about getting a mid-90's (with the cummins 300/400) CC, Foretravel or Monaco (just their higher end units). The funny thing (and it really is not funny from my chair) is all the "potential coahces" that I am interested in....are no where near Northern Virginia. ANd when I was stationed on the West coast...just the opposite was true. BTW - we sold a class C, Xplorer 27ft on a F-550 with the PSD and 4x4 this past summer. Great rig - but with twins, and two labs...and liking the national parks (i.e. dry camping) and the fact we use it for traveling to see relatives in New York and Minnisota...we are looking at something with larger tanks. Course all the above class As fit the bill... I am curious how close the 36SPs are on weight... Cheers, Matt P.S. - As always, thank you for taking the time to post a response...the more I know, the better prepared I am to pull the trigger when the right "deal" comes my way... --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Hohnstein" <MHOHNSTEIN@...> wrote: > > Don't be too happy about the triple C on SPs. Matt
In my opinion the SP36 should not concern you about the carrying capacity,we had a 91 SP36 and as I recall it was something around 2500 lbs. but it was too long ago to recall. Regarding painting the laminate,it seems you can get a prep chemical to use prior to paint applying. I would check with a wood refinisher or paint specialist. If you looked at Newell, Foretravel or Monaco and think they are
comparable to Blue bird, I suspect that you would probably be satisfied with brush painting the laminates. There really is no such thing as a high end Monaco. All come off the
same aassembly line with similar quality. Just a little more glitz on some. Not much substance. They certainly are not in the same league as the others you mentioned. BNruce 1988 FC 35 "La Reina Gitana" |

Two questions: CCC on a 89, 36SP and Painting cabinets
Matt:
I have personally spray painted laminate material. I haven't tried it in the confines of a bus but I'm certain it can be done. I used Imrom auto paint over a well prepared primed surface and it worked great. Typically, you can paint -almost - anything. Rule of thumb; you can rush the painter but you cannot rush the paint. (smile) Lots of prep time required.
