tires
I've not had any problem with steer tires on all positions, although
I prefer to drive away from cold weather, ...

I've been on freezing rain / ice and in snow, even driving on a foot
or more of un-plowed snow driving from my previous storage garage to
the road. Seems that the pressure of the tire at 100+psi gives plenty
of traction for normal driving in these conditions. I haven't seen
the value in traction tires and don't want the noise, I'd consider
them to be more useful in wet-grassy fields at rallies than on
moderate snow and ice.

Bill, You may want to check with your local Igloo tire store. If you
get a set under a palm tree in Florida it would be good to have access
to match brand and style replacements and or warranty with he same at
home. Some tread designs capture gravel and throw the stones up and
back over your toad, this would not be a consideration for those who
keep it on the pavement. The gravel throwers would not even be evident
to tire salesmen in city areas.

Bruce is correct that 'steer set' implies 2 new tires and 'Drive set'
implies 4 recaps. I would however buy a used tire to keep as a spare
from a semi rig with a recent Mfg. date. Chances are the tires you plan
to replace are just old and not worn. In place of a spare, I carry
coffee and a cell phone.

In the States there is a Federal excise tax on tires above the local
sales tax. I wonder if you would be able to exempt this tax?? there is
also a old tire disposal fee and you may want to request "Out the Door
quotes" to give you a true comparative basis for shopping and travel
budget. I look forward to hear about your trip. See if you can get
Randy to fill the Tank, Tiger asked but later declined Randys efforts.

Its almost that time of year when it is time to get the Bird ready to
travel again.
This spring I need to replace the tires and get an alignment.I replace
the tires every six years. They look new but they are six years old.
What brand of tires do you reccomend for a Bird.
Can you recommend a place in the San Antonio area to get an alignment.

Hi:
In the forum's data base are listings of tires folks use. I replaced 6 tires
recently with Sumotomo, less than $400.00 each. They were not is stock, I had to
order them.

Did that include mounting and balancing? I saw some Yokohamas on the
database, mounted and balanced for around $400. That beats the two
quotes I got. Michelin for $3568.50 (Holland)or SOB for $3126.72
(Camping World).....

You would do well to find a high volume truck tire supplier and price Toyos or
Kumhos.

You asked;

My 1993 Wanderlodge needs tires. Got a quote on OMNI tires from
Omalley's in San Antonio. I have never heard of this brand. How about
you? Any suggestions on tire brands?

Jack, I ran big trucks for decades in the welding supply business.
Michelin
are the best but at a heavy price. The hands down best
price/performance
I ever found in truck tires were Yokohama's, came across them by
accident
on some used trucks I bought and never used anything else afterwards.
