Tweetys Extends EMS HW 50C Deal

You bet. This way, all input sources that go through the power transfer
switch will be routed through the surge protector as well. Just decide
where you want to put the remote display unit. I may try & run mine
over the the systems panel on the side wall next to the refer. Can run
the cable for it overhead fairly easy I think.

it depends on the quality of the mov and the size and severity of the
occurence
in simple terms sort of
the mov is piggybacked on the side of the circuit and soaks up the the
surge or spike but once the mov is attacked it either degrades quits
or decouples from the circuit. If a series of spikes or surges happen
in close enough succesion the owner may not notice the trouble code
Since the circuit is still live subsequent attacks would not be protected
The EMS should produce an error code according to the website but I
have not played with it and do not knows its particulars

Yes at 270 it may be cheap insurance BUT do not be lulled into the
thought that this item is the be all and end all
There are systems on the market to protect from more than one
occurence but they are designed for single circuits and would require
multiple installations in the coach

Greg: I have an older model portable. I goes through a sequence of checks
before it applies power to the coach. It will turn itself back on assuming the
surge didn't fry the protector. All of my error codes are printed on the face
of the unit. I look for E-0, that is good. You can see one at http://www.viprv.com
and it explains the coverage the unit provides. My thinking is better to smoke
the protector than the bus

Gentlemen, The Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) acts
as your first line of defense for voltage spikes
plus there are other other features of the EMS HW50C.

If a hi-ampere jolt came in the line strong enough
to vaporise the MOV the system would shut down any
futher voltage coming in UNTIL you selected by-pass
at which time you would be on par with your current
condition. Maybe you would read frequency, L1,L2
voltages, line currents, I don't know?

The manual says to send postpaid envelope to replace
fried MOV's but how often is this? Not that often,
possibly years I would expect. They are about the
size of a quarter and cost $.25 to $5.50

Depending on the current they may take up to a 100
hits before failing or if a strong enough spike could
go the first time.

Some who have used these could give us first-hand
information as to this device being problematic but
we have heard no such warning so far.

into perspective. At least mine. From the information on the
Progressive Industries web site, it seemed to me that they build a
quality product. As you say, there is no perfect solution. This one
