How common were sunroofs? Anybody ever replace the gasket?
Mine is cracked in a few places and is leaking. In the short run I've fixed it with liquid neoprene rubber sealant, but in the long run I need to replace the gasket. One of the two locking arms is also broken. Called BB Parts today and left a message, but didn't get a callback (my phone was fairly busy today, so it could have simply been that Earl couldn't reach me). The first problem is in identifying the unit. There are no distinguishing marks on the latch, and the glass says "Blindex Supercool" and measures about 13-5/8 x 28-1/2 inches. I've found one place on the net that sells parts, Sunroof Doctor. If you go to http://www.sunroofdoctor.com then click on Sunroof Parts, then Parts for Aftermarket Installed Sunroofs (because BB is not in the factory installs), none of the latch types shown match what I have. Click on SFC/Webasto and I think it might be the "First Design" model 1530. I think the latch they show is for the "Second Design." So, anybody have any further input? I looked and was unable to find the proper gasket for the sunroof on
my 87FC. I got to the point where I thought I would just replace the sunroof with a new one that would fit into the cut out, but they were a bit pricey. So I took the old one out, cleaned all of the old sealant off, and then reinstalled using new sealant(the white stuff used for sealing things on the roof). I sealed it in a way that that the sealant overlapes the glass just a bit all the way around(use masking tape here) and down onto the roof. It is now air and water tight, I don't open it do to the fact that it will break the sill. In an emergency you can use the sunroof, but I like the fact that I know there are no water leaks and while driving I don't have the air leaks that were common to the sunroof. If you would like me to e-mail some photos to you let me know. Robert Britton 87FC Hollister, California --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Don Bradner" > > How common were sunroofs? Don: I haven't replaced any but I have found the skylite will leak if
it has even the smallest amount of dirt on the gasket. Keep it clean. R.E. (Ron) Marabito, Dallas, tX 92WB40 --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Don Bradner" > > How common were sunroofs? Doesn't sound good on the gasket, but I agree that opening other than
emergencies is unimportant. Was the "white stuff" Dicor? I don't think I would need pictures - I've sealed enough things on RV roofs! Sunroof
It's been a couple of years since I did the job, so can"t remember
all the details. I reset the sunroof using 1" putty tape, this creates the seal. I then coated with Kool Seal elastomeric roof coating. (purchased from camping world). Now every few years I'll reseal with the roof coating when I'm up there sealing other things that need to be resealed.
