RCA back-up camera

I am in the process of retrofitting my camera. I removed a Sanyo camera and
Taiwan Corp tube. I will remove the old power wires tomorrow. I am replacing
the old camera and tube with an Owls eye light sensitive camera and LCD screen.
The Owls eye camera is about as big as your thumb. I have had it working on the
bench with excellent results. I also plan to use another Owls eye camera to
provide a picture of the R/H side of the bus on a second LCD screen. That
should eliminate a dead spot.
I'll dig up a couple of web sites to browse for cameras. I'll also advise if I
have any luck with my retrofit. Hopefully, the results will be good.

Hi Keith,

There is information in the files section about replacing these cameras
& displays by other owners. Most choose to replace instead of repairing
as the technology has changed significantly. Especially using low light
cameras that can project an image at night. Let us know how you proceed

know... Guess I'll be using the old one as a paperweight. The
monitor works. Do you think I can get just the camera???

If I said I am a camera guru I would be less than truthful.

Typically, when I embark upon an electronic project I read up, get the project
completed and working, reduce it to writing and place it in my book for future
reference. I expect to sleep before it goes wrong. I then expunge the data from
my personal C-drive. Curt Springer was kind enough to send me his info when he
replaced his camera system. After googling around I found the system I am
installing. It works in the house so I expect it to work in the bus. If not, I
will install it as a security system in the house and start over.

I would think that B/W cameras are available. As a matter of fact, I do not
know if my camera is good or bad. My system was intermittent and I threw in the
towel and decided to change it out. If you want I'll send you my camera, you
plug it in and see if it works. It will only cost you the shipping. If it is
bad you have two paperweights.

The camera system uses a standard composite video signal - get a BNC
to RCA adapter, connect the adapter to the camera and run a RCA
cable to any TV using one of the yellow input terminals. When you
get to the right channel on TV (usually the AUX input) you should
see your camera video if it is working correctly.

If you replace the front monitor you can use the stock coax cable
and the RCA adapter into the new monitor.

I pulled my back up camera out and checked the board for cracks in the soldering
and found a couple cracks.
Resoldered and put back in and still working fine.

Keith, It's funny you ask this question. When I bought my FC 35 a few weeks ago
the back up moniter didn't work. It was midnight and snowing , and I had about
80 or so miles to go, so I didn't care at that time, what was behind me, lol,.
Anyway, a few days later, I tried it again and it worked, then yesterday it
didn't. Today I took the cover off, for the camera, and with the key on, I
watched the moniter, while I wiggled the camera. It lit up, I looked at the
coax, and it was jammed up against the vinyl ceiling panel, right where the end
connects, into the camera. I tugged on the end and it came apart. On mine,
there's a tiny slip collar with a rubber gasket inside, that collapes against
the cable, to keep it tight, when you tighten it. I slid it in and I placed the
ground outside along the connection, and secured it with a small fuel hose
clamp, it worked for me, Good luck.

Had my backup camera and monitor replaced by Bleakley in Unadilla, Ga
with a color Sony with sound. I am very pleased. New cabling must
be fished to the back so the labor is the big item.

Well we are all different, that is for sure.

I replaced the old tube monitor and the camera (rear) with a color
audiovox voyager. The rear camera was installed in the same location
that the old camera was. The new camera is able to move up and down.
The picture is bright, clear and in COLOR. I recently installed camera
(s) on both the port and starboard sides of ther coach. The voyager
monitor has inputs for FOUR cameras, so if I wanted I could put a
camera on the front od the bus, also. In addition to the four camera
inputs it also has output for a video source as in TV so that the
system can be used as a security system also. The monitor or head
unit has several leads that can be connected to trnas or signals so
that when backing the rear camera will automatically turn on and go
to the down position. When you turn on right signal the monitor will
automatically give you the view from the starboard camera, likewise
with the port. It also has many choice of rotating views and multiple
views on the monitor. I am pleased with the purchase. The install
effort took about a half day.
