Air governor
The bird is due to come out of storage soon and I know I have some
extra things to work on. At the end of last year (still in good weather) the air pressure would build to 150psi before the pressure relief would kick in via the governor. Is it best to just replace it? If so what is the easiest access (remove bumper, remove fan etc)? Also, is it necessary to manually bleed the air tanks or does the drier take care of all moisture? Also, where are the air tanks located? Chuck Harrison Akron, Ohio 90 SP36 |

I do not know where your tanks are on the SP. I'll tell you where mine are on
my WB-40, so you have an idea where to start. There are three tanks forward of the drive axel near the Bendix air dryer which I had completely rebuilt yesterday. The tanks and dryer are up under the floor in a not so convenient location . A PIA to service. At the same time I had the mechanic install lanyards on each tank..I did not find any significant water in the tanks. The other tank is behind the generator above the front axel virtually inaccessible but we got to it for a lanyard. Jacked up the coach and did it one handed. I did not find any significant water in that tank either and it has not been drained since I have owned the coach because I could not find it. For info, the Bendix dryer on my 1990 is an AD-4 and I had to order the rebuild kit. Now if I can get my step to quit acting up, I will be ok. Chuck You can get to the governor from under the bed. It is in the
back of the air compressor. I changed mine last year. They are only about $40.00 so it is no big deal if it hasn't been changed for a while. I set mine to spit off at 120#. I think 150# is too high. You don't need that much pressure. On mine the air tanks are front to back right behind the front axle & in front of the fuel tank. The first one is the front brake tank. the next is the air throttle & air suspension tank. These two have a valve that can be drained but I have never got any thing out of them The other two are above the pass thru compartment. There is a access plate that can be unscrewed & removed. My tank on the curb side is the Wet tank & the one on the street side is the rear brake tank. They have an expello valve that is automatic. Hope this helps [4 air tanks] Don 89 SP 36' Butler , PA The bird is due to come out of storage soon and I know I have some extra things to work on. Thankd Don,
Have you ever gotten anything out of the 2 center tanks? Is any maintenance required on the air dryer and where is it located? > > Chuck You can get to the governor from under the bed. Chuck My expello valves went bad last year & I replaced them with valves
that has a cable on them & I run the cable to the side door. I knew they were bad because they kept releasing air. If yours are working good I wouldn't worry about them. That expello valve is made to automatic release any moisture that gets by the air dryer. I guess that is why BlueBird put them up in that covered area. They can't be got to very easy. I heard mine hissing is how I found them. The air dryer should be serviced if you haven't had it done since you got the coach. If you crawl under by your water heater compartment & look up on the curb side of the drive shaft you will see it. You will at least need a new cartridge & a new spitter valve. I had a whole new dryer put on when I got the coach 4 years ago. My garage said it was better at that time to put on a new unit rather that rebuild it. Mine is a Bendix AD-9 . Look in Randy's forum in the files there is some good info on them by John Finn. Don 89 SP 36' Butler, PA Thanks Don, Have you ever gotten anything out of the 2 center tanks? The governor is adjustable, should be able to remove cover, take couple turns
see which way to turn. re brake 1983 FC-35 > > From: dspithaler@... > Date: 2007/04/24 Tue PM 11:17:12 EDT > To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com > Subject: Re: [WanderlodgeForum] Air governor > > > Chuck You can get to the governor from under the bed. You can also look in the Links folder of the forum for links directly
to the Bendix site for their manufacturer literature on all things about air brake components, including spec sheets, rebuild sheets, service bulletins, etc. Mike Bulriss 1991 WB40 "Texas Minivan" San Antonio, TX --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "williamcharrison" > > Thanks Don, > How do I get to Randy's forum? > --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, dspithaler@ wrote: > > > > > > Chuck My expello valves went bad last year & I replaced them > with valves > > that has a cable on them & I run the cable to the side door.
