Wandersound Stereo Interference

I recently completed the installation of new rear and side cameras.
They work well even at night. I used the same on/off switch and
constant voltage power supply as the old camera system. All wiring
after the power supply is new 20 gauge wire fused with 2amp fast blow
CMA(??) type from Radio Shack as per instuctions.. I installed two 3.5
LCD monitors using the same video cable as the old camera on the rear
camera. I used the cable that came with the side camera, 4 conductor S
Video. I noticed this morning that my Wandersound stereo signal gets
knocked off line with ensuing static when I turn on the cameras.
Any frequency guru's out there? Any ideas? The TV's are not affected.
No interference before the retrofit. I did not see any capacitors???in
the power lines of the old system.

I'm not familiar with Wandersound, but I remember my 84 was just like my 00. AM
radio sound is virtually impossible with all the competing rf and line
interference around the coach. Now if you were having interference on your FM
signal or a CD, that's probably fixable but not by me.Brad Barton 00LXiDFW

cameras on it knocks 98% of the Hz bars down to zero, one dot. No
music. It does not turn the equalizer off. Weird. Tanks for the

perfectly now. This computer must be passing Gamma Rays through me or
something. I am way in the boonies, have a strong FM signal and haven't
had a cocktail either.

Perhaps you might have disconnected the antenna lead-in for the radio when you
were working on the cctv. If that is the case, it will happen again. Mine was
loose and was intermittent till I found the reason. Mine wasn't on the radio
but on the equalizer connection.

Not a frequency guru but will give you some things to try.
Matter-of-fact not a guru of anything.

1.) You know for certain that the WS is affected by turning
on the cameras. How about turning on the other way, first
the cameras then the WS, Problem persists-No problem?

2.)For best results signal wires should cross (+) at a 90º,
not laid along side one another. Also, the grounds around
the two conductors are beneficial when there is a good
ground. Use an ohmmeter, on the lowest scale X1, check
resistance on the shell of the S-Video plug to a GOOD,
NO! GREAT ground. (Fabulous will work ~(;>))

3.)With WS on, disconnect one camera S-Video at the
camera, turn camera on and off several times to see if WS
is affected. If not, replace S-Video on this camera, repeat
the process on the other. One or the other may be the cause,
just narrowing down the source.

4.)The problem may in fact not be related to the S-Video but
to a momentary drop in supply voltage as the camera is turned
on.( Usually spikes are caused by the inductive kick of a coil
radiating and induced into an adjoining conductor, I don't know
of but perhaps there is such a coil in the system?) A voltage
drop may not be seen on a meter. You would have better results
getting the supply voltage (12V) from another location temporarily
to see if the problem persisted. A capacitor across the source
may prevent the disruption.

5.Check the voltage source wires of the WS, see if they can,
or other wires of that system be moved slightly away from
the vicinity of the camera system.

6.)Call the supplier asking if they have heard of their system
affecting other sensitive systems in motorhomes.

S-Video is nothing more than (2) twisted pairs of wires
commonly used for brightness and color.Each signal
wire is twisted with a ground wire and includes a sparsely
wrapped ground foil on the outside. A better S-Video
cable may end the problem if in that area, this one with
better shielding and plugs for example.

Dick: Anything is possible I guess. I drove 6 hours today listening to various
FM stations and all worked well. There is a mass of wires in the area so perhaps
I need to check the connections. I may have moved them around.Thanks for the

Other than a loose connection at the equalizer created from moving wires around
as Dick H suggested you may have found the answer. Here is why, perhaps.
I could not find a pre-made harness at Radio Shack which went from S Video to a
standard push in video connector like plugs into the back of a TV. (yellow
connector) I wired about 2 feet of harness using 20 gauge wires, ground, video
and power to complete the installation. These wires are wound together without
shielding. I'm now wondering if the power wire is affecting the video signal?
I'll check it out this weekend. The problem occurred in the 92.4----92.7 FM
range. I didn't write it down at the time simply because I don't know what I am
doing on these things until after the fact. lol
