Tom, my flasher is located behind the driver's headlite panel.

directionals not working?
We're leaving on a trip tomorrow and when I went to fuel up I notice
the directionals are not working, and either are the hazard lights.
The last trip we had taken, there was a random (sounded like a relay
clicking) noise coming from the center console (where two drawers
are). Since then, I've had the drawers out and dash out replacing the
EL inverters. I tried to be very careful putting everything back, not
to leave any loose or disconnected wires.
When I put on the directional or hazard switch now, there is a
distinct click coming from a silver box (roughly 6" x 6" x 1" )
mounted right above the top drawer inside the center console. If I am
reading the drawings correctly it is the PMMI switch relay box, or
something like that ( I don't remember exactly what the drawing
said). The drawing also shows a flasher and a fuse.
So, is the clicking in the box a symptom or the problem? Is the box
fixable, replaceable? From where? Does anyone know where the flasher
and fuse physically are? Or basically where do I start with this
problem??? I'd like to get it fixed before we leave. Thanks.

On my 86 38'PT, my turn signals quit working a few yrs ago...it was a glass
fuse under the dash, in front of your right knee, but up under the dash
itself...next to the flasher unit. Hope you are as lucky...

Tom,

I have an 87FC35, but I can tell you about the silver box. I many
hours when i first got my bird in august trying to figure out where
things were. I also had some problems with my blinkers. The silver
box, if you open it up, is a bunch of relays mounted on a circuit
board. I think there are 8 or 10. They are for the blinkers and
emergency blinkers. They should be clicking when you turn on your
blinkers, that is a good sign. I spent a bunch of time trying to
figure all this out, including talking to PMMI. They eventually found
a schematic.

If i remember correctly, there is a front, rear, and side relay for
right and left blinkers. Plus there is another relay that "fires" all
of the relays if you have your emergencies on.

I would bet (especially since you say you hear clicking) that the
problem isn't in the relays, but I can't help you much beyond here.
My relays were solid after 20 years. If you have a tester, you can
probably see if you are getting 12 volts out of the flashers. It is
probably possible that your relays are clicking, but because you have
a fuse out somewhere, there is not 12 volt input coming into them to
send on to the lights themselves. ...One of the PT guys can probably
help you out here more than me.

Good luck!
(ps, I drove mine on one trip w/o blinkers. Not recommended, but I
wanted to go bad enough and was just extra careful.) Smile

will take a little bit of planning and execution But I would look at a
solid state flasher unit that is capable of handling multiple inputs
and outputs
and example would the true school bus type
used on yes school buses but also on new high end coaches

directionals not working?
Alan,

Thanks for the reply.I think you may be right that the silver box is
not the cause! Before I could actually trouble shoot anything, the
directionals and hazards are working again. I now have two relays (1
for the left side and 1 for the right side) audibly clicking and
working in the access panel above the driver. I still haven't been
able to physically locate the flasher. And I am still getting the
random clicking from the PMMI silver box (at least thats where I
think its coming from).
