seat and shoulder belts
My 1973 has had all the belts removed. I'd like to install shoulder
and lap belts. Found a location online selling belts brackets etc. Any one with experience on this perhaps you would give me some basic instructions. I am mostly concerned about the anchor point for the shoulder part of the install. I assume that the floor area is pretty straight forward. I am hoping that I can find and use the original anchor points on the floor. Area has been re carpeted but hopefully I can locate and use them. I told you guys I'd have lots of questions. Its going well however for me and I am really enjoying the process. John Heckman Central Pa 1973 FC |

That might be a bit of a job. I would think the only safe way to do it
would be to remove the wall panel and weld in a bracket to allow for a shoulder type belt. I think you will be able to locate the old floor holes by looking from below, or pulling up the current carpet. It might help to look and see how shoulder belts are installed in newer coaches. Let us all know if you do the project, it would be nice to have that added safety, yet I usually feel that I have to be more careful of the other guy for his safety, not mine. There is another way but very expensive is to buy new seats with

seat and shoulder belts
So is the belt built into the seat and then the seat is fastened to the
floor with some type of cable system? Who sells them? Sounds interesting for the future. seat and shoulder belts
In May I ordered new Flexsteel captain's chairs from Custom RV Interiors in
Vancouver, Washington. They told us that they could not/would not install shoulder harness units on a vehicle that did not have them from the factory. A variety of legal and liability issues is the way I understood it. seat and shoulder belts
When I removed the seat-belted sofa from my coach, I noted that the
belts were installed to heavy pieces of angle iron (about 3/16") that were bolted to the floor with 3/8" self-taping bolts. The bolts went into the steel sub-sub-floor. The anchor point for a shoulder harness will be a problem, depending on your seat placement in your coach, you'd need to open the wall(s) next to the driving/passenger seats and weld in a suitably strong piece of steel (perhaps a piece of channel or square tube) between the frame members -- or if you're especially lucky, you may find a suitable vertical steel frame tube located where the anchor is to be placed. Even so, it will be necessary to open the wall to find the frame pieces. While working on my coach, I find that thin steel plates are used at the joints between the sheets of plywood used for the interior walls -- if you don't open the wall, this may fool you into thinking you've found something strong to make an attachment -- but I doubt that these connection pieces are actually robust enough to trust as a shoulder harness anchor.
