Anyone ever use POR-15?

Scott I've used it on my coach frame & I just finished putting it on a
truck frame. I used the flat black on the first coat & then the Chass's Coat
Black on the second. They say two coats are better that one & you can put the
second one on in 3 to 5 hrs. Be sure to follow the directions & don't get
any on you or leave it dry on your skin as you will have it on you for a few
days. Lacquer thinner will take it off you if you get any on you.The Chass's
Coat Black is shinny & not sensitive to UV.

You can spray it with real good results but I brushed it on for big areas as
the frames. I have spray ed small things that you could take off & not have
to mask off. I made a new battery tray last year & sprayed it. Comes out like
glass when dry.

I've used it with good results. It's a self leveling epoxy
paint, requires surface rust for adhesion, but I've found
that it bonds well to non-rusted metal also. Rusted metal
requires a small amount of prep work - degreaser, and
phosphoric acid based etcher, then POR it on. I found that
the gloss black finish is better than the flat black finish. Flat
black gave me a very blotched appearance with sections
appearing shiny and others appearing flat - stick with the
gloss. Top coating is unnecessary for engine compartment
or undercarriage work. POR can be top coated immediately,
but if you wait too long, a self etching primer will be required.
Top coating is required for UVA/UVB protection.

I have used POR-15 for years. It is a great product. It flows out nicely. You
can paint over rust ( POR )or paint without the rust if you Ospho, sandblast or
etch steel. It needs something to bite. If it is exposed to sunlight, it needs
to be topcoated. I'll guarantee it will never rust again if applied properly.

In my opinion, yes. The phosphoric acid neutralizes the rust
and turns it into a hard protective coating, similar to naval jelly
or any of the other off-the-shelf neutralizers.

Definitely brush it on, just wear gloves and don't get any on your
hands. After it self-levels it'll look like you sprayed it. The final
finish is very similar to powder coating in appearance and toughness.
Those foam/sponge brushes are best, cheap bristle brushes leave
bristles in the paint.
