2000 Bluebird
OK guys the newest coach I have owned is my current 89 PT 40. I am
looking at a 2000 Wanderlodge with the M=11 Cummins in it. I don't
know anything about the engine-good, bad, or indifferent. Can someone
give me the quick difference between the Lx and the LXI. Are these
later model coaches as bulletproof as my 89. I would appreciate any

Absolutely, although I'd steer you towards a slightly older LXi
over an LX - the differences are numerous in favor of the LXi.

Mike,
I'm still getting to know my 2000 LXi and frankly, disappointed with a couple
durability and design issues. But, that being said, the used BB dealers I know
have not been kind to the LX. I made the mistake early on of calling it a
wannabee Wanderlodge. It deserves better than that, but woodwork, wall
materials, surfaces in general and seating are generally cheaper than the LXi's.
Mechanically, the dash, chassis and most of the body are the same..and the only
difference is the powerplants and I don't know anything wrong with a Cummins
M-11. One other fault most of us BB-heads have is pricing our coaches out of
sentimentality. There's a really nice LX for $185K..pristine. But without a
slide, most dealers will tell you it's way overpriced.
I will tell you the driveability and satisfaction of the LXi are enormous.

I would have to take exception to your comment about The LX-40. Please tell the
name of the Bluebird dealer that thought poorly of the LX. Please check the
specifications on the Vintage Bluebird web site LXI versus LX. I would agree
that the LXI is an outstanding Coach, lots of glitter, bells and whistles. The
ISM 450 Cummins is a million mile rebuild able modern diesel with a sterling
reputation and is upgradeable to 500hp by a simple visit too a Cummins dealer
and reprogramming the ECU. The Cummins has a 2 stage "jake brake", not a
transmission retarder, which works great but not commonly used on large over the
road commercia lvehicless due to over heating on steep declines. both Coaches
use 10 airbags, the same diameter brakes with ABS although the LXI has 4 channel
versus the 2 channel on the LX. The LXI has slightly larger holding tanks, a
plus and a bigger fuel tank, more weight, 1 size larger in width tires and the
ability to open the cargo bay doors remotely, this
can also be a problem when they do not work properly.Again the LXI is a
beautiful Coach with the ability to have a slide-out. We have a LX-40 and our
seats and couches are leather, our cabinets are Maple, the counter tops are
corian and there are lots of mirrors and there is a private side bathroom, What
is there too talk down about a LX-40? Oh and probably $50,000 to $70,000 less
than a LXI-, thats a significant discount for a fantastic Coach, seems to me
IMHO the "best buy"
