Water in fuel
Blue Thunder sat unmoving most of the summer. Last fueled at Seven Feathers in
Oregon in late May, and tank was a bit over 3/4 full during the idle period. About a month ago I ran it across town to an RV repair place for work on my waste tank. On the way over, the Water in fuel light was lit. On the way back two days later it was not lit. I am now 1 week and 875 miles into a trip. After each engine start the light varies between off and on, about 50% each time. On the times when it is off, it comes on sometime later. In all cases but one it stays on to the end. In that one case it went off after a hard braking, then came back about 25 miles later. Today it started off, and was off for at least 160 miles before coming on. The separate Water in filter indicator has never come on, and there've been no problems with fuel flow. Looking for experience with this. Have others had it? Did it go away after some fuel was drained out? In other words, what is the liklihood that it really needs attention? Mine stays on virtually all the time and has done so for more than a year. I have drained the sump more than once to no avail, so I don't really worry about it. R.e. My water in the fuel light came on I drain 5 gals of fuel off and light was still on.I ended up disconnecting the sending unit on bottom of tank.LOL I took care of that problem. For what its worth, in my Dodge SLT Cummins Diesel the light came on
intermittently. I found that the connecting plug to the light developed condensate internally and shorted the process. I sealed the plug and no other problems. You may have a screwed up ground somewhere on that circuit. Thanks to those who responded. I don't hear anyone saying "I got the light, and

My water in fuel light burns constantly. I have never had the water in fuel buzzer go off. I have drained the racors several times and also drained at least two gallons of fuel from the fuel tank and no sign of water. I feel sure I have a bad water in fuel sensor but have not attempted to change it. Don: You didn't mention if you used a diesel fuel treatment during
the time your coach wasn't in use. In any case I wouldn't take any chances on water being in the fuel. I use a diesel fuel treatment by Starbrite called Startron. Startron uses enzymes to control microbial growth and disperse water in diesel fuel. Power & Motoryacht magazine tested Startron in the current September issue, page 56, and gave it high marks. Followup: I did not do anything about my "Water in fuel" light, and as this trip
has progressed the light has been on less and less. Today and yesterday, a total of 440 miles from Salt Lake City to Cheyenne, the light did not come on even once. FWIW. Don Bradner 90 PT40 "Blue Thunder" Posting today by satellite from Cheyenne, headed to Denver in a few days. |

?Hi Guys ??? Just changed both filters & drained the drains with no water in fuel. I took it for?a short drive &? the water in fuel light on the center dash came on. It went on?& off for a while. When I got home I checked the sending?unit on the main tank. The wire felt loose like it was bad?in the unit. It is a push on. Does anyone know if this is the unit that is wired to? the center dash on is the?buzzer?on the bulkhead wired to it? Can this unit be removed without out draining the tank. I don't think there is any water in the tank? I do use a water?treatment?in my fuel?? Hi Don:
Do you have the water in fuel sensor in your Racor filter housing? There will be 4 wires on the clear bowl, 2 wires are pre heat, the other 2 are water in fuel. Just a thought.
