PT Sunroof Leak

My PT has the sunroof in the lounge area. Every once in a while, I
will get a bit of a leak when it rains. The previous owner told me
that the gasket for these is no longer available, and he recommended
that I don't ever open it (which I haven't). Is it true that I cannot
get a new gasket, and if so, anyone have a recommendation of how to
seal it up?

Scott: If it is the plain glass skylight, the reason for the leak is
more likely a grain of sand between it and the seal. Open it and
clean it carefully before closing. If that doesn't do it, the seal is
probably bad. If push comes to shove, you could use a sealant around
the perimeter, but be sure to pick something you can remove.

Ours leaked, and I had multiple people tell me no gasket available. Such answers
are often wrong, but depends on how hard you want to chase. I put a thin layer
of black neoprene sealant on the top of the gasket and cinched it down. We
weren't planning to open it anyway, and if we were laying on our side and needed
to kick it out, we could. It was also leaking a bit around the two bolts that
hold the latch. Undid those and put some of the same sealant in and tightened
them up. Been through a lot of rain since, no leaks.

will work for a seal

I had a similar issue with two sunroofs on my Newell. They were the automotive
type that popped up just a couple inches. They both leaked. I was told JC
Whitney sold rubber seal material that could be used to replace the gasket. But
I didn't have the patience. I just rolled a wide bead of silicone caulking on
top of both gaskets, shut the sunroof and never opened it again. Brad Barton
