need photo Onan DKD in a 87 to 89 FC
I just finished removing my genset, insulating the compartment and
overhauling the complete cooling system. This was a big job. I took
photos of everything so I wouild be able to reinstall all the
components. But I have run into a snag. I did not take any pics of the
genset before I started. I am having a problem with the small tank for
the rad. It hinges down but when I swing it up it hits the new
insulation. I also do not rememeber what holds the tank in the up
position. Once I have cleaned up my shop I will post a file and some
photos of this job.

Hi Robert:

Yes I need a shot of that tank and how it is attached to the " hinged
plate" I also would like to know what holds the whole thing ( plate and
tank) from moving. There is an angle bracket that attaches to the
inside top of the compartment but I dont know what purpose it
serves. Thank You for the reply.

Bruce, Since you are now experienced want to give me a hand, I need
to do mine. Want to share any little tricks you learned, what was
the total time on the job? Did you drop the whole unit out or did
you tilt it by loosing the two outside bolts. Please share yuor
experiences with me.

Hi John:

Have you read Bill Pape's excellent file on doing this job? Are you
mechanical? Do you like being dirty? Will your wife let you into the
house covered with soot from the foam. Do you have a good selection of
tools? Mostly what this job requires is perseverance. I will post an
article on my experience with some part #'s and sources for parts. Be
prepared to spend a lot of time . Are you retired? Are you doing this
outside. I would definitely NOT recommend that you try to reinsulate
with the gennie in place. Are you going to remove the rad and fan? When
I took the rad out it was probably the dirtiest rad I have ever seen.
Lots of " slime". Unless yours has been done it will need a recore. Be
prepared to spend at least $1000 for insulation, fans, motors, hoses,
etc. Watch for my " story" in the next few days.
