My matress is made of a heavy foam rubber and there again I got it at
my old Saint Vinnie's. Really nice matress and really confortable.
I have never been to an army surplus store but I bet you could get
the same one that I have there. Just a way of saving a few bucks!

We priced 34" x 78" x 8" thick inner spring with quilted top at $249 and 8" thick high density foam at $278. This was from United Holland Mattress Company in Denton just down the road from you. Their number is 800-833-1914. Have not ordered ours yet, but may do so later in the spring.

I wish you had asked this
earlier in the day. I just came back from the bus barn to see that
my bird was still bedded down for this cool weather. I have been
looking for new mattresses and had requested and got pricing on a
34" x 78" units. I am almost positive the width to the
aluminum trim is 34" the length may be 79" or 80" (need
room for my big feet to hang over). If you can wait until next week I can
double check these dimensions for you . I will be out of town
this weekend and the bus barn is 22 miles from the house< but will be
going out here again then.

Just think of all the storage under the curb side bed you could have!!

ralph- just saw your post and went out to measure my beds for you. the
metal strip is 1" wide and the floor to the top of the metal strip is
18". the with to the wall is 35". hope this helps. if you need more
just ask my bird is about 20 feet from my work place so its easy to get
what you need. i measured both curb and road side. both the same.

Hi Ralph
I had mattress made to order.They fit snug all around just the way I
measured.It makes it imposible to make the bed.Leave at least a inch
all around.Waking up in Q.about 40 birds in a circle.What a
site.Little rain today.

Greetings All:

This is the outfit that built the mattresses for me. Two blocks west
off the square in Denton. He can make whatever you want, including
inner spring type. Originally I had a king-size made up, with 5
different foam layers to accommodate both a light-weight sleeper and a
heavy one. We were able to test several combinations of foam
stiffness, until the most comfortable were found. The king-size was
hinged down the middle to get it in the coach, and to allow access to
the mechanical spaces under the beds. Was fine for two years, 'til I
converted back to twins. Had the king cut down to custom twin sizes,
and they are still good. Very affordable quality.
