odometer and cruise control questions
Hi, folks--
We have our Bird in for some minor repairs at a good, reputable, big-truck place, but the mechanics arehaving trouble figuring out a few things. I did try to search the archives, but didn't really seem to find specific answers, so may we please call upon your expertise, regarding the following questions:
I hope those questions are not too vague. We're asking them the best way we can!
Thanks very much in advance for any help you can offer!

JO-Ski
I put a new sending unit at the rear wheel & that didn't work so I opened up the dash to do a test on the head with an ohm meter. With meter on the odometer starting working. I tightened up the + & - wires & it has worked fine for over a year. I guess I had a loose wire. Mine would work intermittently also Don Spithaler 89 SP 36' Butler, PA On Thu, Mar 20, 2008 at 10:41 PM, jim riordan > > > > > > my odometer was having problems took it apart and lubed it up works fine > now. > > P.S. don't tell the odometer police > > Jim Riordan > > > Jo-Ski > > > > > Hi, folks-- > > We have our Bird in for some minor repairs at a good, reputable, big-truck > place, but the mechanics are having trouble figuring out a few things. 83 has notched drum on curb side rear. Odo and speedo work from that signal. Cruise is magnets on d/shaft with Hall effect sensor just behind rear seal of the Allison. It's unlikely the sensor is bad, likely junk cruise unit. Vacuum is required.

odometer and cruise control questions
The odometer and cruise work off the same pick up in the '83's unless the modification was done adding a second pick up to the drivers side drive wheel. The pick up at the drive wheel sends a square wave timing width duration that ends up being the speed on the odometer. I have replaced to that failed on other Coaches. The pick up sensor is triggered by the notches on the inside of the break drum of the drive wheels.
