Rust!!!
In my apparently never to end mission to improve repair and keep
running the "Big Napper" I ellected to tackle todays project which was cleaning up and eventually to paint the propane tank. To this point I have achieved two things. One is to wire brush the scale off of the tank and the other is to get about as filthy dirty as I've been in my 61 years of age. I think I know what to do next as far as cleaning up. The wife is going to hose me down in the back yard and THEN I might be allowed back in the house. My reason for posting is how should I handle this tank. At the Maxton Rally something was mentioned about "blue ---" (can't remember the last word) which was supposed to be good for rust treatment. I can't get this down to really good clean metal but I have the surface free of any loose scale. Advice as to what to use and where to get it would be appreciated. I'll be back in about an hour and hopefully a lot cleaner. John Heckman central Pa 1973 FC |

John:
Look on the net for a paint called POR-15. It paints over the remaining little bits of rust and is very very durable, escpecially since it is not in the sunlight. POR = paint over rust Bill 84 FC 35 SB "$quanderlodge"Terrace, B.C. Canada ----- Original Message ----

Rust!!!
You can paint rust. once you cut off the air or water comming into
contact with the bare metal, it will stop rusting.I tried all the paints with my hydroseeder tanks and found, A good coat of brushed on exterior latex house paint works the best and it is easy to light sand blast off (only need to reprep the failed re-rusted areas) for a recoat in 5-10 years. I noticed that a little rust seems to help hold the house paint on. Hard gloss paints like Imron and the like crack open and water can restart the oxidation. The expensive paints are too hard to reprep off for repainting. Rust!!!
Hi John that was me that mentioned "Blue Steel" as a rust inhibitor. The recommendations for POR are good too. By the way how is the new alternator working?

Bill, POR is not an acronym, its the users financial state once a
purchase is made. Greg 94ptCa --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, Wilhelmus Schreurs > > John: > > Look on the net for a paint called POR-15. Rob, I googled "Blue steel", thought he was taking about a rusted
tank, not rusty parts? Gfreg 94pt --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Rob Robinson" > > Hi John that was me that mentioned "Blue Steel" as a rust inhibitor. Rust!!!
I googled "Blue Steel" and want came up for me was an ad for a male
enhancement tablet. Now that's funny, Rob, some times I get lost and off track but I seem to think we were all talking about rusting Bluebird Motor Home parts not personal problems. Had we been I would probably paid better attention and not forgotten the name of the stuff. Never did find Blue Steel the rust inhibitor. Can I find something ya think at Lowe's or Home Depot that would work? The alternator is working great. The mount isn't rattling like is was. I got my alcoa wheels on. I have a new battery charger on hand and I think Shane is going to help me install that some time when he gets a little free time. So progress continues. It was great to meet John and Ethel.
Good to hear you are home in PA, and the alternator, batteries and cables did the job.
