Motor Oil
Noticed the local Cenex farm supply carries oil that meets the Detroit
specifications for the 92 series motors. Anyone have experience with
this oil?

Hi Troy,

Sorry it has taken so long for me to send this response, but we are
full-timer that work in volunteer situations. We have been traveling
for the last two months. Before retiring I was in the Lubricant
Division of CHS (Cenex) as one of two Tech Service Answer Guys. I
spent 43 years with two companies as a petroleum chemist.

That being said I can say with confidence that Cenex SuperLube 518 40
wt meets all DD single-grade requirements. DD V71, V92 and 149 series
2 cycle engines call for 40 wt in summer and 30 wt for winter use. Any
single-grade oil meeting API Service Classification CD-2 will meet DD
requirements.

We have a 1989 Wanderlodge with an 8V92 engine that has had SL 518
since 3 years ago when we purchased it. We only recently at about 10K
on the oil had it changed and now has Mobil Delo 40 in it because we
were in Austin, TX where no Cenex dealers are. When we returned to
Minneapolis in early May I bought a 5 gal case of SL 518 and filled my
bulk oiler.

I change oil every 10K miles and do oil analysis each time. Our engine
has about 135-140K miles and I expect it will go to at least 250-500K
before rebuild.

I hope this answers your questions. If you wish to talk further please
fell free to email me: towandadroppings@....
