Air Step Diagram
I have been fighting my air step for a year now. All the diagrams
posted on the forums appear to be for earlier birds and do not match my wiring. My blue box does not have any diagrams that include the air step. I have two issues now. The extending cycle works but the retraction cycle does not work. The solenoid valve is not retracting when power is applied. That I can fix or replace easily. The real problem is that no power is coming through the retraction circuit under any combination of switches and door condition. I can not trace the wires after they enter the front panel. Larry,
This is probably no help, but is there a chance that another switch or contact is placed somewhere else in or around the door, in the crack or hinge or under the step? I have at least three contact switches in the inside corner of the door, with other valves and solenoids around the step. If you're sure you've found them all, please disregard. You might call Glenn Rodgers at BB and see if he has a 94 diagram.
No power to the retract mercury switch.? One other idea. There is a pressure switch up under the top step on the frame of the bus (at least on mine)that its sole purpose is to extend the step if a foot gets caught on retraction. It is a flat clear looking thing extending the full length of the step. As I recall, if that thing fails the step will not retract. Larry, you need 100?? psi to make power avaliable to the if/then
conditions that retract a step. on my 94 there is not a foot pressure device which Leroy describe (I just looked for it). The step master switch in the entry is toggled down (I scribed a T for travel down. and a P for park up) The dash step switch with the red light is toggle depressed on the left/light side. I wonder if the problem is with the 'low air pressure extend circuitry??? When the bus air tanks drop to a low ?? set pressure a switch some place inline prompts an 'extend of step' and that switch or some other switch will not allow it to return until pressure is reestablished. My thinking is this low pressure extend function is designed to throw the step into the cam-over lock out while there is still enough air volumn and pressure to cause a complete extension. It may be that this switch (or the high side cut out) is not reading/sending a signal of reestablished airpressure??????? if you get hold of a BB tech maybe you could ask for the location of the air pressure switch(s). I have a complete set of diagrams that RobR made by combining 3 members partial sets vintage 93 94. I will find them in my bay this weekend after I unpack palmtrees, lights,and other useless crap for a campout at 'Temecula hot air balloon festival'. I battled with my air step for a year....I know it sounds elementary, but the culprit was simply a bad ground wire at the step itself. I relocated the ground point (the nearby genset solenoid), and the step started working fine. I still can't figure why the original ground isn't grounding (??). (this was after I replaced all air step relays, removed the safety strip, and re-worked the micro switches...all of which wasn't needed).
Just a thought...

I removed the step pressure switch last year with no effect. The tank pressure is good. The step well cover shoots out and in very fast. But good point Greg, while I have good pressure the sensor may be signaling low pressure. I will call BB and see if they have a step diagram for my 94. Greg, hopefully you have a diagram. No pressure switch?? That low pressure air circuit will cause that problem also. I have one of those. Mine system works fine because I jacked with it forever two years ago. I know his frustration. However, I now have a specified procedure. Pull into the park, place the extend switch to extend, flipped to the right, when I leave a park place the switch to the left toward the light.

I have redrawn a diagram for the 1990 step diagram, is there any difference from that year?
The redrawn wiring isa schematic rather than a wiring diagram.

I have the step diagrams along with about 30 other pages. I did find
a plastic stripunder the frame above the stepstowwell????I think that is the device leroy talked about.
