Xantrex 2.0 Hardware Inverter/Charger

Has anyone used or have opinions on this inverter/charger? They are
selling refurbished ones for 60% off the retail price with a 1 year
warrenty. Could solve 2 issues for me with one stone so to speak.

I went through a number of the Xantrex battery chargers before I realized this

company has more availability of "refurbished" product than any other company

I have ever seen! I switched to an Iota charger for my application and not only was it cheaper so far I have only needed one.

Hi Michael,
I've had a Prosine 2.0 unit in my bird for two years with no
problems. I think that most folks either install them in a closed
compartment (and they overheat) or they get doused with salt or
road-spray and it kills the electronics. The ProSine 2.0 is the best
of the best if you ask me. I've had golf cart batteries in my coach
for two years (new when I bought the prosine) that have never gassed
or gotten crusty. I just water with distilled every 2-3 weeks or so
with a battery watering system to keep them topped off. I've never had
to equalize in those two years and my Hygrometer was pegged at 1.3
across all 18 cells last weekend, which is usually what I find every 6
months or so when I check them. You'll need to put the unit as close
as possible to the battery bank and use at least 2/0 (preferably 4/0)
cable to the battery bank. I ran 10/2 Romex up into the coach to a
small sub-panel and powered all of the outlets, the ice maker,
microwave and instant hot off the inverter.

I'm glad to hear that Shane because I just purchased one. Found one
of those refurbished models for 60% off list and I just couldn't pass
it down. Where did you end up mounting yours? I'm almost afraid to
put it outside in a storage bin!

I blew up my Prosine 2.0 today. Had a full load of everything on at once (3 A/C,
water heater, etc.). The 50-amp breaker on the park pole went, as did the master
breakers inside and the inverter breaker. I knew I was in trouble because the
stuff on the inverter went off also. What I found after messing around was that
the inverter is showing "relaywelddetect0"

In order to have any power I have to have the Prosine off at the switch on the
unit. Even running that way I'm getting occasional loss of power on the inverted
circuit (which is in pass-through), which self-resets - I don't know what could
be doing that except the inverter.

Full load shouldn't trip the 50 amp breaker. From your error it sounds like the transfer relay contacts stuck and gotcircuits crossed up.

I don't know what happened. Transfer shouldn't have been doing anything. The
Prosine docs define the error as an internal one; there are three relays
internally that isolate the output of the inverter from the supply line, and one
of those is welded shut.

Don- what circuits do you have routed through the ProSine? Those
contacts should have been fine with a load under 30 Amps. I usually do
not flip on the inverter or plug/unplug the coach when I know there's
a heavy initial draw. Since the ice maker and instant hot are both run
through my inverter, I usually make sure the ice maker is off before
switching to inverter power. I do not run any of the A/C units through
the inverter.

My inverted circuit includes all of the wall plugs that I know of, the
microwave, the drapes, and some lights. Only heavy draws are the microwave,
coffeepot, and toaster, none on at the time.

The output of the inverter has a 20-amp breaker in-line. The input is 30 amps.
At the time of the problem the batteries were fully charged, and the load should
not have been more than 5 amps of various computers, etc.

The inverter is toast. I called this morning, and the guy said it might just be
a stuck relay and to bang on it near the right front. That did not work, so I
opened it up and when I saw the couple of burnt capacitors I knew it was not
going to matter if I could unstick a relay or not, so I did not finish taking it
apart.

I've removed the inverter and hardwired the input/output together to supply
power to the normally inverted circuits. Got a cheap charger to keep the
batteries up when we are parked, and Xantrex is sending out a new unit for
$897.50. They did not have any refurbs on hand. Since they are not setup to
handle exact shipping dates I'm having it sent to my business, which in turn can
send on to me on demand.

This one is repairable with an unknown amount of time to do it. I will probably
have them do that in the future for a spare.
