Dick and Carolyn
I've had Progressive Insurance for 4 yrs...I pay just under $600/yr for full coverage; includes towing, disappearing deductible (deductible decreases 25%/yr if no claims, and goes away to 0 in 5 yrs, etc, etc). Progressive for the BB, Allstate for the cars. You'll get other referrals...check 'em all out. It seems that the big guys (Allstate, State Farm, Farmers, etc) all charge 2 to 3 times more than the RV specialty companies, and give you less in return. Best of luck.. Hi All
We are wondering if anyone has a better deal on insurance than we have, it seems ours keeps going up with no accidents or citations. We are with State Farm and have been for about 60 years. Dick & Carolyn Sevey 83 fc 33 Pahrump, Nv. |

Take a look a Camper World insurance program. I was with GICO Insurance and my
whole familys driveing record is perfect for the last 6 years. I have twin boys 22 years old and my insurance was running around $2800 dollars a year four cars and a motor home. Now its running at about $1700 and its still the same amount of insurance for the whole family! I thought I was getting a good deal at GICO but the only deal I was getting was a good kick in the rear end! This topic seems to come up every so often on these forums and a lot
of well meaning replies are given, but one thing that doesn't seem to be mentioned is, that insurance rates are very sensitive to where you live, even within a given state, so comparing the rates that one pays in one state to where another individual lives, or as the insurance people like to say, where the insured vehicle is garaged, is almost useless for comparison purposes. To give you an example for instance, here in the state of South Carolina, one of the most expensive insurance states, thanks to our legislature and a lot of uninsured motorist, the insurance rates vary depending on what county that you live in. I live six miles outside of the greater metropolitan area of Columbia, SC the state capital and I pay the same rate as if I were living in downtown Columbia, just because I live in the same county. I can go about 100 miles from here and cross the Georgia state line and get a substantial savings, if I lived there. When I had my business and I was on the road for almost 90% of the time and hardly ever traveled within the state of South Carolina, other than to leave from and return to home, I still had to pay the same rate. the cost of commercial insurance for that vehicle was a major factor in my decision to retire completely from that business and close it down after over thirty years. Since I am a lifetime member of the Good Sam club, I have all six of my vehicles insured, with the exception of my Motorcycle (they don't offer it here because of the no helmet required law, even though I always wear one, for the past 21 years) through their insurance program, which is with GMAC and have had a very good working relationship with them on claims in the past and I am satisfied with their rates, compared to other insurers in this state. I believe that GMAC also offers insurance through Camping World. Just be sure you are not comparing apples, to oranges when asking for insurance rate comparisons, especially from state to state. John actually setting insurance rates for an individual is a rather
complicated procedure. Two people living on the same street driving the same motorhome and insured wtih the same company may pay widely differening rates. Now they not only take into consideration accidents and speeding tickets, but your credit rating. The credit rating FICO number seems to be a big factor now. I am insured with Progressive and have $300K $500K liability, collision full glass with a $1M umbrella policy and its $503. tom 1982 FC35 Vernon Center,NY At 08:36 AM 5/25/2005 +0000, you wrote: >This topic seems to come up every so often on these forums and a lot >of well meaning replies are given, but one thing that doesn't seem to >be mentioned is, that insurance rates are very sensitive to where you >live, even within a given state, so comparing the rates that one pays >in one state to where another individual lives, or as the insurance >people like to say, where the insured vehicle is garaged, is almost >useless for comparison purposes. > >To give you an example for instance, here in the state of South >Carolina, one of the most expensive insurance states, thanks to our >legislature and a lot of uninsured motorist, the insurance rates vary >depending on what county that you live in. Ok I still would like to know why one insurance company can charge so much more
for a policy than another. My driving record was the same, I live in the same area and my information I gave them when I applied was same. I still have the same amount of insurance but its almost a $1000 dollars difference. The insurance company I have now is GMAC. Jon Tom Warner for an individual is a rather complicated procedure. I just got of the hoke with my Insurance agent and if the price of fuel
isn't high enough the insurance rates are going up! I had to decide whether to keep comp on my rig or just or go with the Liability. I chose the liability as it is only $65 dollars for six months or 489 dollars with comp. Not to much to think about here. It seems that these insurance companies want to insure these big rigs as if they were new. By that I mean their cost figure is made up of what it cost when new. Boy now I should have gone with that high figure and had a slight explosion in my motor home. But I know when an adjuster came out they would only give me what I paid for it, I'm sure of that. Well anyway still looking for a cheaper insurance for the comp and if anyone has any input please add any remarks. JON PS Just wandering what a person with a newer rig would haft to pay? hi Jon and all,
newbie poster and no BB just an admirer. anwho, we just went from a MH to a 5ver (7W) a couple of months ago as we prepared to change gears and go fulltiming. as of a couple of days ago, we are now house-free and loving it!!! if you're full timing, the only insurance companies that I've been able to identify are Progressive, GMAC, and Explorer RV (actually Explorer is an insurance agency and I believe most of their policies are underwritten by National (National Interstate, i believe). found only one positive comment from a person who filed a claim with Explorer/National the person was happy with the settlement on a vandelism claim on a DP MH, and the quick appearance of the settlement check. I haven't found anything negative about them from searching the yahoo groups and the web. from same searches, I had no problem finding negative things from RV owners about GMAC and Progressive and couldn't find anything positive about them. One thing I did stumble across is that National evidently writes (or wrote) a lot of commercial policies for 90+ years, including school buses, mid and large trucks... so they might really be favorable to BB's. Explorer/National on an annualized basis, was just about half on the preminum costs for the same coverage compared to GMAC and Progressive. (their quote was for a 12 month period vs. the 6 month for Progressive and GMAC). I think we're hesistant to jump to them only because the quote was soo low (fickle at times aren't we...) We still haven't made a decision (will within the week) on which one we go with. http://www.explorerrv.com/ I don't have any affiliation with any of these companies. if anyone out there has had any experience (claims) with any of these companies or any others insurers that would be nice to hear. A non-related comment. This is one GREAT GROUP. I really like seeing all the questions and varied responses each day. Maybe some day we'll be BB's too but meanwhile, I'll just sit on the side lines and learn the wealth that is shared here daily about RVing in general and BB's in particular. peace, Al (& rita) --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Jon" > > I just got of the hoke with my Insurance agent and if the price of fuel > isn't high enough the insurance rates are going up! I have full coverage on my 86 PT through Progressive Insurance, and it's
around $500/yr (300/500 coverage, 1k deductible (disappearing, will be zero after 5yrs of no claims-2 more yrs left). One of our members had a serious crash in his BB, somewhere near 50k in damage in his 1986 (?), and Progressive paid everything without much hassle. I'm sure we'll hear from him...
