Curt, how are you powering the stop lights? are you leaving it federal putting them thru the left and right turn? if you seperated them European style you can still use the variable brake signal to trip a relay that sends 12 volts to the lights only??? but you will need a stoplite pin and a brake drum pin on the trailer plug



I was trying to remember how I fixed the flasher /brake controller problem so I hookedmy olde brake trailer toa dump and realized I never corrected the problem!!! Idont use the pintal hitch e brake trailer, too small and DOT wrote me up because my truck has antilock and the trailer does not. the problem still exist. here is one link I foundthat may not require learning what causes the problem

Yes, powering the stop lights as the coach is wired, through the L/R Turn...makes me happy.

You had me wondering about the brake
controller. That’s why in a previous post I asked you:

on trailer brake controllers, but it sounds as though you are using new
technology I am not familiar with to supply the variable DC brake voltage.
What are you using for a brake controller?”

I didn’t ask my question well enough.
Greg, however, asked the question properly. If I had followed up on the Tekonsha
info you gave me, I might have realized that there was nothing really ‘new’
about the control voltage the controller was producing. Good thing we have
lots of proof-readers and competent minds to guide us at times.

Revision One takes out the BK relay and the 12V relay.
I hooked up the trailer to the bus this afternoon. The discovery is the relay
(BK relay) comes out of the mixture. Greg O'Connor is correct...the trailer
brake controller will not function correctly with a relay. The trailer brake
controller wire should be wired only through the fuse block, allowing variable
voltage to the trailer brakes. The new Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller is
working fine after this change.

You are absolutely correct. Use no relay for the trailer brakes. I've changed
the brake wiring and all is fine, and will change my write up and republish it.
The 12V relay also comes out of the mix. I'll cover that in my write up
as well.

Curt, On my 98LXI I can use the same harness to work with the trailer
brakes or the trans pump. I placed a 4 prong trailer plug in the
compartment by the drivers window to route the harness from brake
controler or trans pump. Which ever I tow is an easy hookup. You may
not use a trans pump but thought I would make this idea known for all.
