air toile compressor is failing

hello everybody its been a long time since weve been on here. we are still in
our 88 pt 40
and have just completed another perfect around the country trip. we had no
problems at all
and got great mileage pulling an old range rover and a lot of gear. i am
totally amazed that
this thing can get almost 6 mpg when my big block old truck back home doesnt do
much
better.

anyway we are parked in warner robins ga for a few months and I noticed the
little pancake
compressor for the air toilet is running a lot longer to ger
t up to the pressure it needs. it is also making a slight rattle sound that it
used to not make
while running. it is a microphore toilet and the compressor has that brand plus
the name
thomas on it. does anyone know if this can be rebuilt?

Our 2000 LXI is now on it's 4th compressor. After spending over 400$
to buy the first replacement from BB, we went directly to a Thomas
distributer for #3 at about 245$. That 1st replacement from BB lasted
nearly 5 yrs. #3 we shipped backed to Thomas last fall for a warranty
replacement and it is in storage until #4 goes down. Fortunately #4
is still running but we have found that we have to drain/purge it
frequently to eliminate that awful noise. It seems to require it more
when you have high humidity or fog. Thomas can't explain why they
fail, they just refer you back to their distributer. Otherwise the
microphor has been OK.

My 2000 LXi just has the small 12v compressor, no pancake tank. Not that we didn't have trouble with it. Ryan rebuilt it when we bought it, then we eventually had it replaced. Finally, we both found a small air leak at a fitting under the lavatory, on near the wall and one near the toilet.

I am convinced those toilet air pumps wear out from overuse because of minorleaks in the air lines. Since they pressurize only briefly, the leaks are hard to find. The quiet 12v pumps probably run when we don't notice them. Our Newell didn't have a 12v only the main 110v aux compressor. It was not only huge and loud, it wasbolted througha boardontothewall ofthe engine compartment about 16" below the nightstand on my side of the bed. And with air-leveling bleed-off and the leaks in the other air lines, it rana couple minuteseach hour all night. After the first night, I was ready to take it back. We eventually moved it up front.

You mighttighten up the systemby hooking a separate air line onto the pump, putting constant (not too high) pressure through the lines and finding the leaks probably in some valveor fitting somewhere probably hard to reach.

4 compressors shot may prove compressor motor is not the problem but
the result of a problem that need attention.

1--Could it be that the limit switch on the 2nd and subsequent units
is set to start the motor when there is too much psi in the tank,
run the psi too high top end? if the tank is too small; time run
from startup to shutoff/psi-reached may be too short of a period to
run the motor and cool off the initial start up stress

wonder if there is an electronic device that could gateway startup
if voltage was under a given variable. could be that psi limit
switch now starts it up for more pressure but the battery voltage is
too low to spinn so the motor just humms and burns up

2-- Could it be that the 12 volt supply is messed up.

3--If you do a chloreen test on the discharge from the tank, lack of
will prove the water to be condensation. trace will prove other prob

4. I would ;fit a larger tank, ;mount a relay prompted switch near
the head (Momentary switch under the seat is trick), ;if belt
driven, change ratio, or ;just park near a tree
