Batteries not charging-both engine and coach

[Ed Gardels]

My batteries wont charge after I found them discharged.grand kids knocked
shorepower plug out. I pluged it back in and a couple of days later they are
still dead. I have the diagrams for the chargeing circuit. There are four bosch
relays in the circuit to allow the current to the buss and then to the battery
bay. One of the wires that goes to the coil of one of the relays goes to the
front elec panel.What else is neccesary to charge the batterys.relay or
whatever.I have been working on this for two weeks with no results.
Anyone have ideas or knowledge of this circuit please advise?

Ed,

Some chargers need at least some charge to get started. I have had to put a small trickle charger on the boat to get the batteries up enough to turn on the main charger. The protection circuits in modern chargers need some voltage to insure that they are connected properly.

How long was the coach 'off power'? It might be that the batteries were discharged to a level where they are beyondresuscitation.

It is also possible that the batteries are so low that there isn't enough power to trip the relay. I think someone said it takes a minimum of 10.8 volts. (If you're below 10.8 volts, see he first paragraph.)

Finally, try putting a portable charger on the engine batteries (or the house batteries) to get them up about 11 volts so the relays will operate.

Hi Ed:

Just a curious question to start; Have you checked the output dc voltage
from your chargers? they should be reading 14.1 or so dc volts at the
source. If only reading 12.3 vdc then the chargers have taken a hike on you.

Ed,

I'm not too far away if you are not comfortable checking this out. Pete may be right if the batteries were taken to zero or are fairly old they may be beyond recovery. We can be optimistic. I have forgot to turn off both battery switches and discharged my Trojans twice and they have come back. I have a little over Six years on them and just had them checked by the dealer and he said there was no reason to replace them yet.

saw on the PDI(Power Dynamics)web page today(Ive been using their troublesooting
chart), that if the input is low the output can be low. I might get to that
tommorrow. This afternoon I took out the batteries to put on my other charger in
the garage.

I took out my 4 house batteries and replaced them with TWO TROJAN 6 VOLT
T-105'S AND PUT IN A XANTREX CHARGER AND I have plenty of house power...just a
comment.
