Bill I just took Michelins off in Dec that were 9 years old & they didn't
have any cracks or wear on them & I had made a trip to AZ the year before on
them. Its hard to throw them away when they look that good. The six new
Michelins cost me $3000 here in Butler. I had a retired truck driver tell ne in
FL this year he wouldn't have got rid of them if they didn't have any cracks
in the sidewalls. I was just afraid to make another trip to AZ this past
winter.

Rob, Thanks for the input,

Our Bird came with 12R22.5 Firestone T575 loadrange H tires.
The fronts are almost six years old and the rears are four years old.
The T575 is no longer available, Firestone recommends FS560.
The tread design is four rib vs the five rib design on our present
tire.
The present tires show no signs of wear or cracks, Our Bird was
always stored indoors when not in use. I have been satisfied with
the Firestones, But I only have 7,000 miles and one year experience.
We will replace the steer tires later this summer.
This Firestone tire seems to cost about 25% less than the Michilens.

The tire debate continues.

As a retired line driver after 30 years and over 3 million miles and 3
steering tire blowouts I would certainly encourage everyone to not
take chace or cut corners with steering tires.

Hate to tell you this, but your truck driver friend is giving you
poor advice. He is basing it on the trucking industry point of
view. They have their tires in service all the time, which keeps
the rubber alive. Most truck tires see 100,000 miles a year.

You have an RV, which based upon your description, gets very little
use and spends the majority of time sitting. This destroys tires.
I'll bet you don't put 10 to 15,000 miles a year on yours. Any
manufacturer will tell you that 6 years max and you should remove
the tires regardless of how they look. We here horror stories all
the time of folks having blow-outs on older tires. It isn't worth
it to stretch their use. The damage that results from a blown tire
far exceeds the cost of the tire and often an entire set.

Decided to get new tires although mine are only a little over 3 years old.
Wanted to actually see and feel different tires in the 11R22.5 16PR in
Bridgestones, Toyos,Generals, Dunlops and anything else that is widely
distributed except for Michelin. I am not a big fan of Michelin tires
simply because of the flimsey sidewall.

I want a tire with a good strong sidewall like the Generals I now have. I
will do anything for safety and reliability ? That to me means a strong
sidewall and lots of tread.

Two different dealers in Utica NY today just laughed at me. They have
nothing for sale in that size except for some chinese tires...no thank you.
They told me there is a shortage of tires and as fast as a load comes in
its gone. What shocked me is the labor rate now. Any work after 4PM is
$92/hr with a 3 hour minimum. What in god has happned????
