Newbie has a question

Hello everyone,
My husband and I have been soaking up all the excellent information here about
Bluebirds for a couple of months in preparation of purchasing, Lord willing, our
first motorhome, which will be a Bluebird, in the next couple of months. Can't
tell you how much the willingness of each member to share info and help the
other out has impressed us so far, but most of all given a couple of newbies a
sense of security as we begin our new life on the road soon. Thank you's to each
of you for providing such a well run group here on Yahoo!! Thankful to be a part
of it!

My first question for you is: We are currently living in Illinois. Will be
establishing our domicile/residency in Texas and it looks like our Bluebird will
be purchased in another state besides Texas, and if it works out, from a private
individual, so how do we legally drive this motorhome from the state we buy it
in to Texas where we plan to plate, and register it?

I've purchased vehicles in other states. The seller gave me the Bill Of Sale and signed off on the registration, or what ever it is called. The registration was current. I drove the vehicles to Calif., had them inspected, and registered them. No problems at all.

Best wishes on you getting a Bluebird. Just bring your title to the DMV and they will fix you up. But you will have to pay sales tax, I believe. Carry the title and or bill of sale. Don't speed.

Tony and Patricia,

Since you are leaving the high-tax state of Illinois, and if you are buying your coach out of state, you may benefit from establishing an LLC in Idaho, I believe. You can research it yourself and see if it's for you. In some cases, you can establish an LLC for a thousand dollars or so and legally avoid sales taxes, especially if you are moving out of state or buying a coach out of your state of residence. I know it works if you reside in Texas and buy a coach out of state. Some people think it's shady, but I don't. I believe the sales tax was paid fully on the new price and that your annual registration and licensing render enough to Caeser. Had I been able to have 100% assurance of no problems, I would have done so and saved many thousands in sales taxes. Just FYI. I hope I haven't started the world's second longest thread (behind the CDL question).

I'm not sure about different states, but when I bought my 77FC35 from
a guy in Alabama, I drove it home and went down to the tag office, and
they only charged me registration, not sales tax. Someone there told
me they weren't charging sales tax on used vehicles, but I don't know
if that's a policy or a mistake...

Best tax advice I ever got was "pay your taxes" how can you set up a corp to own
and write off a vehicle then call it a personal motorhome? If you are driving
it for a shill business I would think you need a CDL. If it is owned by a
business in California then I wonder if it would be pulled off the roads in 2012
like my three ten wheelers?
I put up the ten grand for registration so I could relax by a camp fire.
