Jake Brake Installation
The Jake Brake install was completed this evening. Driveway testing appears to be good. This weekend
I plan to run the 'Bird over to and up CA Cajon Pass, then down the pass for the final test. Curt Sprenger |

Fred, Thanks. I'll post after the down hill test...currently looking for riders...hahaha.
As I think about it, the Cajon Pass hill climb is a test as well because of the fuel rack and valve adjusting.Add to that the exhaust tube at the turbo was loose so I should see more boost on the guage...and a much faster run up the hill...you've driven that hill...am I dreaming?ÃÂ Curt Sprenger On Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 8:21 PM, Fred Hulse <"fhulse@wildblue.net"> wrote:

Hi Curt
You will definitely know the change when you get just past the Silverwood/Wrightwoodturnoff.
That is one of the most deceitful climbs I know of.

Jake Brake Installation
Drove the bus up/down Cajon Pass this morning. The Jake Brake works great. Heading for home I crested the Cajon Pass in top gear and left it there. Used the
service brakes 4 times in the first 6 miles going down the 6%+ grade. Kept the coach at 65 mph. The Jake is much better then the transmission retarder, and the trans. temps.are cooler too. With the retarder I'd need one lower gear and 10 to 15 mph slower and use the service brakes often. The 8V92 had a little more power climbing the Pass, got another 5 mph. Valve and fuel adjusting made a difference. Curt Sprenger On Sat, Jul 18, 2009 at 10:48 AM, Fred Hulse <"fhulse@wildblue.net"> wrote:

Curt, you have the most fun and obvious large attributes. I hang off of cliffs
in my bobcat tethered to our old auction crane, Ride shotgun to Mexico on orphanage Christmas runs, Call Tim's Dad Dad. but don't have the attributes to depend on a jake to stop. I could never descend that hill any faster than 35mph. I worked a job on a hill in Lake Elsinore (view of it off 15/railroad) the 8% grade non allowable retarder (residential area) cause me to go so slow down that a street sweeper passed on one descend. Greg, Fred,
Thanks. I tried the Jake on some shorter down hills before descending the 13 mile Pass and it was working. A longer/newer coach passed me on the way down the Pass, pulling a 24' box trailer, for sure over length and in the wrong lane, 3rd over from the right.ÃÂ Curt Sprenger On Sun, Jul 19, 2009 at 10:20 AM, Fred Hulse <"fhulse@wildblue.net"> wrote:

I'm just gun shy after my bus would lose electric power and shift into N while
running down the road. for the Jake to work you need it to stay in gear. . --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, Curt Sprenger > > Greg, Fred, > Thanks.
