SWBB: 2010 'Q' Rally: Two important presentations scheduled
Hi Everyone,
We have 80+ sign ups for our 2010 "ANNUAL BLUEBIRD QUARTZSITE RALLY", January 16-24, 2010. Join the party! Go to our Quartzsite homepage for details and to sign up: http://www.southwest-bluebirds.org/annua...ite_rally/ We have two very timely events scheduled that are related to Randy Dupree's recent loss of his coach by fire. First, a presentation and demonstration by Jim Sheperd of RV Safety Systems. Jim will be demonstrating his 'Cold Fire' fire extinguishers (used by NHRA), and his on-board RV fire detection/suppression system. Second, Lucas Willemse will discuss fusing of motorhome electrical systems and show how he's fused his coach to protect against a fire caused by electrical short. These are only two of the many events that are being planned for the 2010 `Q' Rally. Details of these and all other planned events will be posted soon on the SWBB Quartzsite Rally homepage. Bookmark it and check back often. Register with SWBB and sign up for our Quartzsite Rally today, and be a part of the biggest gathering of Bluebird motorhomes in the West: http://www.southwest-bluebirds.org/ http://www.southwest-bluebirds.org/annua...ite_rally/ "Talk" to you all later, Phil Corpus `iWander' 85PT40 Left Coast EMAIL: swbb_coordinators@... |

SWBB: 2010 'Q' Rally: Two important presentations scheduled
I'll do one on large footwear , which I believe will help with fire protection
as much as a big fancy suppression system and electrical mods. It s cool to look at these devices but maintenance and review is probably one of the biggest protectors. one thing that fails to make the 20 year life cycle on the bus that provides fire protection is all the simple plastic loom covers that are zip tied on over the high amp wires. where they wear thru in 10 years you can bet is a spot that needs attention as the wire insulation is next. To replace the loom covers with the same gives you that many years proven protection. all the engineered grommets placed in critical chaffing locations need to be reviewed. wet down some wires and pay attention to the ones that dry first and quickly. I see mods all the time that dont employ the same practices the critical engineering dictated. like slack in electrical lines and tie downs where things can separate. many of the add on electrial overload protection devices are firehazzards. I have only herd of one thread by DickH 3 years ago about the relays that suck power all the time (continuous duty). these relays have to degrade and in time draw more and more current, producing more and more heat until they pop or internally ground out and make a solid short. they need to be replaced or changed to a circuit that is closed by power or manual effort. then there is my reason to save data and stats. ie battery consumption that bleeds off goes some place. when that consumption increases the energy is spent and heat is produced. find the heat, find the issue. 5 amp short can start a fire if the fuel around the fire needs little heat to pop. check for fuel in areas that get hot or hold hot appliances and functions. the great thing about the net and folks like Randy and Carol is their issue will be found and shared in the effort to help others learn to avoid that same result. I dont think the 95pt is unsafe or additional modifications need to be installed. Shit happens and historically repeats its self. With Randys help I am sure the history wont only be a picture montage of a bus fire but an essay on the reasons and way to avoid the same. The fire Hype has me looking at all the wires , looms and feeling for heat. I checked my extinguishers and put the insurance company's phone number in my wallet. SWBB: 2010 'Q' Rally: Two important presentations scheduled
Hi Greg,
You're on, also. I have you scheduled for 10:00 AM, January 28. Send me an outline of your presentation. :-) :-) Has your palm tree forest grown? We need to fill that lake up a bit more and add a few more pink flamingoes, too. See you in Quartzsite -- Gotta go find that rainbow knit cap.
