Suburban Furnace No Heat
Having the no heat issue from the center propane heater, Suburban NT16 SW.
Suburban tells me the NT16 SW was designed for Wanderlodgeââ¬Â¦the W for Wanderlodge. The NT16 SE looks to be the same unit. Suburban could not tell me the difference in the two units. Anyone have that knowledge? Anyone know if the NT16 SE can be used as a direct replacement for the NT16 SW without modifications? Curt Sprenger 1987 PT38 8V92 "MacAttack Racing" Anaheim Hills, CA |

Suburban Furnace No Heat
Hi Curt:
Comes to mind that the sw had to do with the center heaters and actually was for the FC's. The FC's had the ducting under the step in the shower and that duct had a booster fan that was operated by the thermostat in the bath. But even if you have to slightly mod for some reason, you already have the parts from the old unit. I know of no reason why the SE cannot be used in your Coach, I would put in a new out side intake/exhaust tube unit with it though and remember the tubes must slide over the exhaust by 2 1/4 inches. These are easy to miss and you think it is in place. What sort of issue? Do you hear a click click click and no fire? do you
hear one solid click first then click click click? Does the fan run? Have you removed the front panel, then the cover with the sight glass and cleaned the probes with a tooth brush? Ran a long cone brush that is used in the house on the drier lint vent, to clean the top of the beaver tail? Is the circuit board getting the signal from the thermostat? Just some thoughts before replacing, these units are usually pretty bullet proof but the circuit boards will go out from time to time. Ralph,
I'm just getting started with this project and building my alternatives sheet. Usually there is no heat, minimal heat once in a while with t-stat at max. T-stat, fan, click, all seem OK. I can see fire thru the glass when it produces minimal heat Yesterday I removed the unit. Removed the ignition/sensor unit and cleaned it although is looked fine. The adjustments are correct. Burner looks great. Little dust using compressed air in the fire box. Need to continue checking... Suburban Furnace No Heat

Curt,
I had to get a new NT16 for the FC a few years ago because the heat exchanger was leaking. It had the front cover issue as stated by Chuck and I used the old one. On the PT I have always been able to fix/clean the heater to getthen workingto work. I also remove themto clean and bench test. When I did the units on the PT I don't think they had ever been removed and cleaned. Cleaning works wonders. I did have one, the center one, that had a bad thermostat. Discovered that after I had done all of other things I could think of.

Also need to check the valve on the tree to be sure it is not just
partially turned on for some reason. Have you checked your LP pressure lately? And are there mud dobber nests in the intake or exhaust ports out side? These will lower combustion and give you low heat as well. Safe travels, Ralph & Charolette Fullenwider '84 FC 35 "Ruff Diamond" Duncan, Oklahoma At 09:23 AM 12/2/2009 -0800, you wrote: Ralph, |

Suburban Furnace No Heat
Curt - I just replaced the center furnace in our FC with a NT16SE. This is the
front discharge model. If I had it to do over I would use the ducted model. (The center FC furnace does not duct under the shower - that is the front furnace.) I re-used the original discharge duct that BB had attached to the furnace front panel. It would have been easier to adapt the duct to the solid front panel of the ducted model. Other than the duct and some revisions to the propane inlet the job was easy. Changing the propane fittings required pulling the new furnace out of its housing. If you have enough space on the right side of the furnace you can use the original fittings. Also, BB cut away part of the furnace housing for clearance on the FC. I had to duplicate the cut on the new one. This may not be an issue on the PT. Frankly, if your firebox and flue are in good shape I'd fix the old one. A dinasaur circuit board and new fan motor is about all it should take. The new one is cheaply made and considerably noisier. In fact, until the fan motor packed up, all I had to do to get heat from our old one was to re-adjust the igniter gap once or twice. Its in the book.
