Heater part

Hi Steve,

Did you replace the high temp safety switch on the hot water tank??
If so, which switch did you install???

The newer HWT's seem to trip at a lower temp than the original HWT.
Then the switch needs to be manually reset. I seem to also remember,
that the original HWT had an automatic resetable switch.
The HWT mfg. states that the high temp safety is set at 140 degrees.
WIth the engine running at 185/195 it sometimes trips the safety.
Cold water is not a fun surprise.

Curt: This information is great if I just had some information of the limits
that the switch is set for. I called Pro Supply who is the authorized parts
distributor for the Cadet Heater and they say the Model TK-101 was a recall and
no parts are available. We both know that others have these switches, but they
won't give me any information of the switch, which appears to be a high limit
switch. According to them, you have to replace the entire heater. Do you think
one of these sites you referred me to would know how to determine that?

Ron, if you look closely you should see a temperature
stamped in it. This is the cutoff temperature that protects from overheating.
They are available locally here from Granger, although I get most of my parts
from Appliance parts Co in Richland
hills.

They have a location in the Portland, OR area that I have bought from. Their
number is Sales: (503) 239-6050. Give them a call and they will either sell you
a part or can provide you with a current model electric heater. I bought one
for a project and it was suprisingly cheap.

Ron, I would think that given the wattage of the heater somebody like Grainger or Johnstone Supply should be able to come up with a high limit switch for it. Besides the current draw of the heater you
need to know the cutoff temperature. I was lucky, the switch used in our
heaters was the same one used to protect most electric dryers so it was
available and cheap ($6.50) locally at Appliance parts.

Ron, I would think that given the wattage of the heater somebody like Grainger or Johnstone Supply should be able to come up with a high limit switch for it.
